S&S 100 Films HTF Forum Challenge

d'oh! Well, I lose this challenge: I'm at 75, but there's no way I'm seeing 25 more of these between now and 12/31. Maybe I'll just start working on the 2002 list now and save myself some trouble ...

Watched CHILDREN OF PARADISE. By and large, an astonishing and wonderful movie, with lots to recommend it. But *SPOILERY* I found the end exceptionally frustrating. It's not even ambiguous so much as it just stops before at least one inevitable event occurs that would change things...

Not that it's entirely on topic, but I wanted to mention to the folks in this thread (who seem like they'd be the interested parties) that I'm writing a weekly column at MHVF called "An Incomplete Education", focusing on arthouse/world classics. This week's column is on WALKabout...

Thi, I believe it's scheduled for November (the exact date was posted in a recent thread in MHVF), but I don't have the cable, so unless I can find someone with a large heart and cable, I'm out of luck.

wow, I've already got 91 of the 2002 list (going from the 124 mark and counting DEKALOG as two films). I'm still at 33 to go on the 1992 list according to my count, even though I just watched OUT OF THE PAST. I wouldn't put it before NIGHT OF THE HUNTER, but it's a darn good noir nonetheless...

Oh, yeah ... boy, it's been a while. Embarrasingly, I've only watched one (!) of the films since I last posted on this list, and it's not even CHILDREN OF PARADISE, BELLE DE JOUR, or any of the other recent DVD re-releases ... it's WEEK-END. WEEK-END was one of my less favorite Godards -...

Got to see WEEKEND on the big screen this weekend. Unfortunately, this isn't the bright, shiny new print - it was an old, faded print, maybe 16mm, definitely held together by spackle or something, just barely. WEEK-END reminded me a bit of PIERROT LE FOU (which I really liked), but the...

I've totally fallen behind, too. But just watched VIVRE SA VIE and STRIKE this week, bringing my magic number to 36. STRIKE was frustrating: interestingly filmed (especially given the age), beautiful score, and some powerful passages, but at the end of the day, a propaganda film, and a...

Regarding the comments about Satyajit Ray's personality: from his writings (in addition to his films) I have been profoundly impressed by his personality. He seems like an extraordinary human being, apart from any particular talent in the cinema he had. (Something that can't always be said for...

Darren, I tried to post a review of Pierrot Le Fou as a response, but it's not taking right (or doesn't appear to be on my browser - apologies if the rest of you get it a couple of times). I'm posting it separately as a main topic.

Darren, I'm not Jung, but I wrote a review of this for my site after watching it the other week. I haven't posted it there yet, but here it is as it may prove helpful to you. (Any comments on the review, content or formatwise, are very appreciated, as this is my first stab at this format.)...

Knock me down to 42 - since my initial post, I've seen NASHVILLE, L'AGE D'OR, BRIEF ENCOUNTER, THE MAN WITH THE MOVIE CAMERA, PIERROT LE FOU, THE GOLD RUSH (with live accompaniment by the Asylum Street Spankers!), and A DAY IN THE COUNTRY. Commented on most of these in a separate thread, but...

ah, so HERE's where the list is ... okay, I've got to join this. (I didn't care so much about the AFI, but this is a list I can get into.) I've got a head start - I've already seen 51 films (counting the DECALOGUE as 2) on this list. I should be able to make some quick progress, too (I've got a...
