    We Need More Musicals !!!

Paramount, HALF A SIXPENCE, PLEASE. !! Joe one thing that impressed me greatly with all of your Columbia Laserdisc titles, is the outstanding sound quality. Columbia during the fifties had probably the best high fidelity, 4 Track Magnetic Stereo sound of any Studio. (I treasure...

    We Need More Musicals !!!

Brook and Neil, I know it's not as good as owning the Movie, but a new CD of the "Yankee Doodle Dandy" Soundtrack is about to be released by Rhino Records. It will contain remastered recordings of all the songs plus outtakes and rehersal tracks. No doubt it has been put together by the...

    We Need More Musicals !!!

Joe, The Coffee break number is featured on the original Soundtrack LP of "How to Succeed in Business" The LP is Stereo, so is it possible that the Film's original Stereo recordings still exist somewhere? or are the edited tapes done for the LP all that we have left. Have the vaults of...

    We Need More Musicals !!!

Rain, "Seven Brides" was made at a time when not all theatres were fitted for Anamorphic Cinemascope projection. To get the most out of the box office numbers and for insurance, just in case Cinemascope was a failure, some studios shot both flat and scope versions of the same movie...

    We Need More Musicals !!!

Any chance MGM could revisit "GUYS AND DOLLS" and "HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS" and give them new Anamorphic Transfers? These are two titles that I didn't purchase, because I refuse to buy non 16x9 Discs of Widescreen Movies. Does a Stereo track exist for "Business"? Also it must be just...

    We Need More Musicals !!!

It would be interesting to find out from Studio Representatives, just why there are so few Musicals released on DVD. Is it because of the complications and costs involved in getting Music/song/artist clearances? Surely that cannot be the excuse from the Studios that own associated Music...

    We Need More Musicals !!!

Derek, Like you with Seven Brides, I forgot to mention the same thing with "Brigadoon". Let's hope that Warners gives us a DVD that features both a remastered 16x9 Cinemascope Version and the Alternative Flat version. I saw the flat version of "Brigadoon" once and it looked great.

    We Need More Musicals !!!

Greg, "The best little Whorehouse in Texas" has been released here in OZ as a budget priced, pan and scan, Mono mess. "Hello Dolly" has also just been released here, in 2.35:1 Anamorphic and 4 channel DD sound, but it has been taken from a really poor quality print. The colors are mostly...

    We Need More Musicals !!!

Though I know I'm wasting my breath, but I can dream can't I, so here goes, Warners if ever you get around to the MGM Musicals, the very top of my beg list would have to be, "Two Weeks with Love" ( as a kid I fell in love with Debbie Reynolds in this charming musical) "Summer Holiday" My...

    We Need More Musicals !!!

Joe, Great minds think alike! "THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE FREE" is one helleva under rated Musical. Fox must have worked on it recently because it was run on TV here a couple of weeks back in a beautiful Letterboxed transfer with true Stereo Sound. "HALF A SIXPENCE" Roadshow version...
