Thanks Mark,
the lousy thing here is that they have it listed as in stock.
How's that for a kick in the guts.
I've just sent my fourth e-mail, this time cancelling the order and demanding a refund to my PayPal account.
Doug.
I'm still waiting for Importcds to ship my paid for copy of "Beneath the 12Mile Reef". They've had my cash since the beginning of January.
I'VE SENT THEM THREE E-MAILS OVER THE LAST 2 WEEKS AND THEY HAVE NOT HAD THE DECENCY TO RESPOND.
Where do I go from here?
Doug.
Importcds is still showing my order for 12 Mile Reef as OPEN.
It's starting to look as if January 28th might be the actual release date. Grrrr...Amazon early... Grrrr
I guess that's what happens when you try to save a few bucks. Grrr....
Doug.
It would be a wonderful thing if Fox Archives revisited some of their previous pan and scan disasters such as "The Best Things In Life Are Free"and "April Love" and presented us with brand new Anamorphic transfers.
But I highly doubt that will happen although I still live in hope.
As an Aussie I didn't become aware of PAL Speed-up until I purchased my first bunch of US Laserdiscs back in the 80s.
I had grown so accustomed to the sound of the MGM Movie "The Band Wagon" after countless viewings on Pal TV Broadcasts and local VHS Tape, so I became shocked when I first heard...
All right all right, so I weakened and bought another two Fox Archive discs after I said I wouldn't.
The two discs were, "Three Little Girls in Blue" and "Coney Island".
At least I knew that there would be no aspect ratio issues.
As reported previously in this thread and elsewhere "Coney...
I would have bought all the recent Pat Boone titles.
But, Pan and Scan, forget it.
Yet another lost sale for the mean spirited, non caring, non thinking Fox Archives.
There are some members here who seem to accept a 4:3 letterbox transfer as being OK.
Certainly it's better than pan and scan, but...
It may have been quite acceptable back in the Laserdisc days, but there were no other alternatives if you wanted to view a widescreen movie close to the correct...
I hope you are right Lionel, but don't hold your breath.
If "April Love" is on their list, then why go to all the expense of releasing an inferior transfer now, only to do a costly update tomorrow.
That sadly is not a money making exercise. Although with Fox who knows how their minds work...
The worrying thing for Film Buffs here is that if Fox Archives start to release brand new or at least the best possible transfers and where applicable Anamorphic Widescreen transfers with Stereo sound, a lot of the choicest and most wanted titles from the 30s, 40s and 50s have already been...
"Three Little Girls In Blue" is one of my favourites, but I shudder at the thought of what Fox Archives might dish up.
This movie is yet another 20th Century Fox colorful and tuneful variation of 3 girls in search a rich husband. ( Other Eg. "Moon Over Miami" and "How To Marry a Millionaire")...
Welcome Even.
I must admit that I would never use Zoom on a 4:3 image.
Not only do you compromise the ratio but you also lose some of the DVD's image quality by blowing it up.
Even using the TV's overscan can lower the image quality a tiny fraction.
Let's pray that TT rescue "Three Coins In...
I have a couple of Bounty's Western titles and while the color and sharpness are fine, both have nasty and troublesome problems within the Video.
The problem titles are "Streets Of Laredo" and "Saskatchewan".
Problems include the appearance of very annoying and detracting horizontal lines...
i just checked an old off-air VHS-Pal recording I did many years ago of Betty Grable's "That Lady In Ermine" and was shocked to find (allowing for the poorer VHS resolution) that the print broadcasted had far superior color/skintones, no crushed blacks and featured a much better Grayscale than...
Will we ever see Wide Screen Anamorphic versions of "The Best Things in Life Are Free", "Boy On a Dolphin", "April Love", "Bernadine", "Beneath The Twelve Mile Reef", "New Faces", "Untamed" and other early CinemaScope productions?
I live in hope.
Thankfully a few Anamorphic DVDs & Blu-Ray...
"Wabash Avenue" looks and sounds awful and definitely appears to be an old transfer.
I'm not all that happy with "That Lady In Ermine" either. The orange skin tones in most scenes and the crushed blacks are really off putting, although there are a couple of sequences where the gray scale and...
My latest experiences with the Archive Discs are,
"Meet Me After The Show" = Not the worst Archive disc. Is watchable, but only just. Colors are generally off. Songs are really bad.
The only good thing is seeing Betty Grable and the wonderful Gwen Verdon perform together.
"Wake Up And Live" =...
Now taking bets.
What are the odds that both "Untamed" and "King Of The Khyber Rifles" will either be 4:3 Letterboxed or Pan and Scan.
Stereo ? Anybody want to guess.
Imagine what complete Anamorphic joy Warner Archives would deliver if only these were theirs.
Sadly they're not. :(
The print...
More misery coming my way?
I just ordered 5 more.
"Call Me Mister", "Meet Me After The Show", "Wake Up And Live", "Irish Eyes Are Smiling" and "The I Don't Care Girl".
Expectations=?????
Below is an original 35mm frame scanned from the trailer.
