Well that counts me out then.
Their original announcement mentioned 4 discs and around 30 or so shorts.
The fact that they've left the title as more shorts from the Dream Factory is technically correct, but is a bit misleading and very disappointing.
I'll bide my time as I have a few of these...
Thanks for that Allen.
I'm lucky enough to own a few on 35mm and the Technicolor is gorgeous.
Shame that the condition at Warner Archives is a little ragged.
Those titles released earlier on Laserdisc unfortunately, mostly had faded color.
Still, I will most definitely buy them when and if they...
I just came across Warner Archives INSTANT site.
I'm unable to access the titles on display, but can somebody tell me if those titles listed and not currently released on a DVD will most likely get a release?
The title listed that interests me most is "James A Fitzpatrick's TRAVELTALKS - Post...
Yes, sufficient for casual viewing on a TV when the importance of the movie doesn't really count.
But viewing an important movie on a large display, then Blu-ray is very much the preferred option.
I can suffer DVD artifacts with the former, but give me an artifacts free Blu-ray for the latter...
I'm another in support for the physical product.
What becomes of those who are unable to stream?
A lot of us here in Australia are stuck with slow speeds which makes it almost impossible to download a movie. (unless you leave your computer on all night)
We were going to get a much improved...
I just noticed a few GREER GARSON titles listed as Pre-Orders.
"Desire Me" and "The Law and the Lady" are two, but the one I really want is "STRANGE LADY IN TOWN"
An early Cinemascope Western with Frankie Laine singing that great Dimitri Tiomkin title song.
Her hair is red as the settin'...
Joe, my scans above were taken from a local TV broadcast.
Surprisingly it was not on TCM, but run on our Australian National TV Broadcaster who has access to most RKO titles.
It was quite a decent print, so I hope the Warner archive disc is as good or even better in comparison.
I'll order the...
I just noticed that the enjoyable Herbert Wilcox production of "IRENE" has been added to the pre-orders.
Anna Neagle and Ray Milland star with a great cast of supporting actors.
The movie is in B&W but it has a beautiful Technicolor sequence to highlight the song "Alice Blue Gown"
It will be...
I wonder what condition the existing French version of "The Merry Widow" is in.
What of the French dialogue tracks?
I'm guessing Chevalier would do his own French dialogue and that MacDonald would be dubbed.
What of the Musical numbers?
Did they use the original English pre-recordings or were...
Do I receive a prize for getting it right?
Meanwhile, when they get around to releasing the 1951 version of "Show Boat" I pray they include those splendid Stereo tracks used on the Laserdisc.
Doug.
Thanks Brandon.
"I've a feeling that some of the Leon Errol shorts were released on DVD a while back"
You know you have too many DVDs when you forget what you already have.
A quick search found The Leon Errol Two-Reeler Comedy Collection already in my DVD collection.
Being public Domain the...
Thanks Allen,
That is indeed disappointing news.
RKO did make some really entertaining shorts.
They used directors such as George Stevens, Mark Sandrich and Jean Yarbrough.
Stars included Betty Grable, Ruth Etting and Tony Martin among others.
Of course the Edgar Kennedy and the Leon Errol...
Reading Andre Previn's book you get the impression that after he left Hollywood and became more heavily involved with Classical Music, which in turn led him to becoming the leader of the London Symphony, his film years became something of an embarrassment to him and is something he sadly...
One would think that It needs to be a film that has the potential for good sales.
Money and profit nearly always come first in any commercial venture.
Star names = sales.
Which film fits that criteria best?
I'm guessing "Night Of The Iguana" or "The Americanization Of Emily"
Both have sales potential.
"The Outrage" could be an outsider, but I'm not sure that it would sell very well.
Doug.
I'm in shock.
I just received Samuel Goldwyn's "KID MILLIONS"
IT'S NOT PROGRESSIVE.
It's obviously from an ancient analogue source.
Even the non progressive laserdisc looks sharper.
The Technicolor sequence is extremely soft on the DVD.
Hard to believe that this big disappointment is from...
More shorts sounds great.
I really want the Fitzpatrick Travelogues and the Passing Parades.
Of course more Vitaphone Musicals would be more than welcome.
What with the Classic Shorts from the Dream Factory Vol 2 and the Fox Archive Alice Faye and Sonja Henie feature announcements, it looks like it's going to be a very Merry but costly Christmas.
Olive have been able to release Blu-Rays from the Paramount transfers given them.
One would think that Warner Archives, with Paramount "A" titles at their disposal could do the same, although I think Warner's standards might be set somewhat higher than Olive.
Costs might also come into the...
Wow! Wow! Wow!
Classic Musical Shorts From The Dream Factory Vol 2
I've been waiting and waiting for more of these wonderful forgotten gems and even though a few of the titles are already featured on other DVDs, I will be ordering the set as soon as it becomes available.
This is one of those...
I keep praying and hoping for more box sets of MGM Shorts.
James Fitzpatrick, Passing Parade, Carey Wilson, Pete Smith, Romance of Celluloid and lots more Musical's.
Doug.
Strange Programming:
In it's initial Australian suburban and regional Cinema engagements during the early 50s "SINCERELY YOURS" was doubled up with "ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK"
I went with my rowdy Teenage Buddies to see "Rock Around The Clock" five times and had to endure "Sincerely...
Lou Lumenick reports in the NY Post that the seldom seen 1943 Technicolor version of "THE DESERT SONG" with Dennis Morgan will finally get a Warner Archives release.
It would be great if we got all 3 versions, although I'll gladly settle on this one for now.
I don't ever recall seeing it.
