It is a bit of a grey area, I guess, as Prometheus doesn't feature any of the same characters, but it clearly presents to the audience an agenda that's driven by answering 'questions' presented by Alien, resolving them in a way that sets up Alien.

I don't think it did turn out to be something else; I think it clearly is a direct prequel to Alien. However, that's not why I'm disappointed by it; I'm disappointed because it's a nonsensical prequel.

I think it's completely fair when the movie presents itself that way. Well, I don't like Aliens anywhere near as much as I like Alien, but at least Aliens makes reasonable sense within the rules of the universe that Alien described. That's all I asked of Prometheus, but the latter film didn't...

I'm not referring to what we were told he did, but to what we were told he is.

I'm not talking about things that people do; I'm talking about logical fallacies that plots try to make us believe. Vis-a-vis his role in Alien, what Prometheus asks us to believe about the space jockey is just stupid. It has nothing to do with whether or not he forgot to clock out for lunch...

I'm with Josh on "one of the worst" because Prometheus had such incredible potential and deflated my great hopes. Sure, Wrath of the Titans is a more "terrible" movie in an absolute sense, but not one that I ever expected better of. The bigger they come, the harder they fall.

However, the mere presence of an explanation is not enough, if that explanation describes circumstances of sheer stupidity or absurd reaches of logic. Adequately-explained (or excused) BS is still BS.

Exactly. I wasn't questioning him; I was differing with him. He's entitled to every silly and unsupportable opinion he wants to hold. :P

I can compare it to 2001, as well, but it doesn't fare well in the comparison.
