I love jungle movies, so this one is a must. I read the book in High School. I have the soft and overall crumby-looking DVD, and would love to see a Blu. Audrey is so damn beautiful.
I agree that posting the same thing multiple times is kinda useless, unless said posts are spaced out by years and any newer post bringing up the same topic offers something a bit different.
However, I disgree that such postings fall on deaf ears. I am firmly of the belief that Mr. Feltenstein...
Well, I posted this almost six years ago, and about half of these titles have been released (now marked in red). So, it's really a matter of patience, which at my age is growing a bit challenging. Nonetheless, I'm very impressed. These are not all mainstream movies. Thank you, George & Co.!
Re: POPEYE...I would sure love to see the three two-reel "special" cartoons get Blu-ray treatment. Seems odd these would have been left off the earlier volumes.
Welcome to the forum!
I too am a fan of ALP, along with almost any other Cuaron film. But to suggest that WAC doesn't "give a toss" about it is not the reason why it hasn't appeared on Blu yet. The Archives have thousands of movies to consider from the Warner Bros, MGM, RKO and other libraries...
You are half-right (and thanks for the head's up). THEY WON'T FORGET is on Blu-ray...I have it. THEY DRIVE BY NIGHT, as you say, isn't, although it is part of my DVD library.
Actually, I have been quite impressed with (and thankful for) the R.K.O. titles that have arrived on Blu-ray. In my library alone I have collected the following RKO Blu-rays (not every one is a WAC title, but most are):
ABE LINCOLN IN ILLINOIS
ANGEL FACE
BEDLAM
BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT
BLOOD...
You think maybe, due to the push forward of some Sept. titles, that a few planned October releases have also been kicked down the road, perhaps due to quality issues?
Well, I'd give up on the two remaining Lewton films if it weren't for the fact that credible rumors regarding THE ABYSS from Disney have been surfacing lately. I'm 73 and not in the best health so, selfishly, I want these in my still-living hands.
Is there one title among the four announced that anyone here has expressed an interest in before it was announced? I totally support Mr. Feltenstein and WAC, but wonder about this month's announcements. All will be well with me if next month's roster includes the two remaining Lewton's, just in...
Seems to me I read somewhere that there was a reason why PHANTOM OF THE RUE MORGUE was a very unlikely release. WB proper hasn't put out a 3D title for years, and WAC hasn't released any at this point. But, fingers crossed. I'd be all set with the two remaining Lewtons. Icing on that cake would...
I guess I could piece together what next month's releases from what I have read, but what is the final, official list of August WAC releases? Seems like information is scattered around. Can we get an official, consolidated list each month, please?
P.S. Forgive me if just such a list appeared...
You probably right. Never-the-less (as Katharine Hepburn so eloquently put it to Bogart in THE AFRICAN QUEEN), it's fun to make small wagers. Guess you have the advantage, but that's okay with me. Game?
That would be a great comeback...if we were all in, say, fifth grade. In fact, I meant no personal offense with my post. I was only intending to comment on the hundreds of "complaints" having to do with WAC's choice of releases, and, full disclosure, a number of those over the years have been...
I imagine "they" probably do have such titles. I've heard "they" have. In fact, I know "they" have. "They" have lots and lots of movies, and at least some of them have to be more modern than all those old black & white silent musical comedies and westerns You could check on that by dropping...
I am curious regarding the spec:
Has this been common practice for all or many of WAC's 1.33:1 releases over the years? It would help explain the amazing picture quality they achieve.
I wonder if other studios such as KL also apply this process.
Anyone?
THE BOY WITH GREEN HAIR. Who'd'a thunk?
This is a movie I probably watched ten times in a single week on Million Dollar Movie when I lived in Westchester, NY. in the 60's. In black and white.
I bought the color DVD, and it suggested an excellent color transfer might be possible, but...who the...
ME, TOO!! I am also a huge fan of QUEEN CHRISTINA and, frankly, never thought we'd get a decent-looking Blu of this, since the DVD is pretty much gutter trash. Oh, what a month!! Thanks, WAC. Not a Yogi fan, but this group is a bases-loaded homer.
