International THE ALAMO (John Wayne's extended cut)

Today is the 188th anniversary of the fall of the Alamo.

International THE ALAMO (John Wayne's extended cut)

You need to go back and read the posts from earlier in this thread, from page 35 or so. The French release was discussed and was generally considered to be inferior to the German release. The German release featured the shorter version in HD, and the longer version was cobbled together from the...

    Looks totally non-legit to me.

Here are a couple of scenes. I didn't spend much time on this, and I wanted to choose shots that were both downrezzed and not. Uprezzed LD shot: 2K shot (resized to 1280 x 720): Uprezzed LD shot: 2K shot resized to 1280x720:

The longer cut really is not much to look at. It's okay to get a sense of what a longer continuity might have been like, but that is all it is good for IMO. Koch did a good job of combining the good general release footage with the laserdisc footage. But when it cuts from the one to the other...

International THE ALAMO (John Wayne's extended cut)

I knew you meant that both versions were included. I was referring only to your description of the longer version since the shorter version is probably the same as what's on the Koch disc. The Koch longer version is in 720P with the additional scenes up-rezzed to 720P combined with the better...

So are you saying the French Blu-ray merely has the longer version in SD, and that you have to zoom in on it for it to fill your screen? That is definitely not the way the German Blu-ray is mastered. (I used Google Translate to read your post, so it may not be accurate).

International THE ALAMO (John Wayne's extended cut)

My copy shipped on 5-16 and I received it last night (5-28). I took a look at those scenes. Crockett's death does contain an extra shot or so (definitely more frames than the release version). I assume Wills' does as well. In several of the extended scenes, they opted to keep most of the scene...

I still have my laserdisc player in my rack, but I no longer have the separate unit for decoding AC3 laserdiscs. I don't think my version of The Alamo was the AC3 one anyway. Too bad the Blu-ray went with the Dolby 2.0 track.

Sounds promising. It's a shame that we are getting excited that a Todd-AO® film "looks pretty OK", but it is what it is.

Why should it be anamorphic? When the Star Wars OOT films were included as a bonus on the Star Wars DVDs they were not anamorphic.

Timothy, when you went to the actual Alamo, did you see the IMAX film Alamo: the Price of Freedom? I always recommend that visitors see that film first before going to the Alamo. The IMAX is in walking distance of the Alamo (or at least was; not sure if it is running these days). I think Alamo...

International THE ALAMO (John Wayne's extended cut)

I am somewhat ambivalent about the two versions. It was exciting to see the longer version when it came out on VHS and laser (I still have the laserdisc). However, The Alamo is a severely padded film even in its cut form. Ideally, I would like to create my own cut in which I would use some of...
