Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Thanks for the heads up, Randall. What a nice surprise! I caught this a few times back when MeTV (I think) was airing it on Saturday mornings for awhile. I enjoyed it but certainly never expected any kind of complete, non-Alpha release. I look forward to purchasing this.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I’ve heard of 21 Beacon Street but don’t think I’ve ever seen even a clip of it. But I’m always open to trying out a TV crime drama, especially from the B/W era. Looking forward to this. This is very nice Friday afternoon reveal.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Thanks for sharing this news, Randall! I’ve never seen Code 3 and what little I know about it comes from its wiki page. Still, I’m always up for a blind buy for an old cop show. At least one episode was directed by Don Siegel, so I’m especially interested to watch that one. Just when I think TV...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Ah, okay. You may have been thinking of the Volume 2 release of the second half of Season 1. I was hoping - against the odds- that maybe you knew of some plan to release Season 2 and therefore you didn’t need to include it on your wish list. (If only...)

You don’t want Season 2 of Ben Casey?

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

That’s interesting. I bought my copy from SAE (Screen Archives Entertainment) in December. Deep Discount was also selling it in December but, as I recall, SAE had the better price at the time. Amazon was apparently late to the party. I honestly can’t think of any B&W TV releases for this year...

And actually you can’t even count My Three Sons. That Season 5 set came out last December.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

That's unfortunate, but thanks for posting this so that we know not to expect another series to materialize anytime soon. I've especially enjoyed your release of both seasons of Public Defender, so hopefully at some point you'll be able to license another relatively obscure old series (either...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Season 5 of My Three Sons became available in late-December. So really nothing has been released so far this year. Despite the news in the other thread, I still hope (probably in vain) that more Ben Casey, Our Miss Brooks and the first in-color seasons of My Three Sons somehow manage to...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

So...a science fiction series? ;) That said, it might be worth a look, especially with Peter Falk starring in one of the episodes. Perhaps I'll try it when there's a really good Deep Discount or B&N sale.

Great - and unexpected - news about Our Miss Brooks and Ben Casey. I enjoyed getting to finally see OMB for the first time when it aired early mornings on Me-TV a couple of years ago. I've never seen BC, but I enjoy a good medical drama series. (I already have in my TV-on-disc collection Medic...

Also, earlier this month VCI released Vol. 4 of I Married Joan. It's only 10 additional episodes after Vol. 3 came out in 2014. Still, it's better than nothing.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Bad news about the planned ClassicFlix release of Lock-Up. They originally announced a Season 1 release of Lock-Up at the same time as they announced a complete series set for It's About Time. Since It's About Time is now out, I decided to search for a possible update. This morning I found it...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I'm currently making my way through the recently released series Decoy. Considering how many episodes are on each disc, it looks better than I expected. I'm hoping Film Chest Media, the company responsible for this DVD set, has more complete B&W series planned. Today I saw a thread in the...

Well, this was unexpected... http://tvshowsondvd.com/news/Marry-Millionaire-The-Complete-Series/22742 The release of a relatively obscure 50s series that's actually not a western plus features Barbara Eden? I'm there.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Congrats to the western fans. Of these upcoming shows, I mentioned in the other thread that I'll definitely get Serling's The Loner. Also, I might eventually try Trackdown as a blind buy since I like Robert Culp and Ellen Corby. No interest in the others. I hope there will someday be an...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I've only ever seen clips of The Defenders, plus the later Showtime movies, but this is one I know I'll enjoy. Glad it's finally going to be released.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Nice breakdown, Gary. While I try to take a "never say never attitude" I also try to have realistic expectations. So I agree that the likelihood of many more B/W releases is unfortunately slim. Of the 4 majors you listed, TGG is the one I'm most disappointed about. As you said, it had such a...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I agree: the non-westerns they put out were great. Among them, my favorites were Checkmate, Johnny Staccato, Coronado 9 and Medic. The westerns I did get from Timeless were Stoney Burke and Whiplash. Good shows, though I likely wouldn't have bought them if not for their stars, Jack Lord and...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Pre-Shout Timeless didn't offer very much if you didn't share its love/fixation for obscure westerns. Occasionally they deviated from this and put out other shows, but not so many that the shift in focus after the takeover bothers me as much as it does some people. I bought many of the...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I can't say that I'm content with my B/W library, since 2 of my most wanted shows (counting color as well as B/W shows) aren't available and likely never will be - 50s Dragnet and Burns & Allen. It's been discussed before that a reason for their absence is due to some of the episodes being...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I'd love to be able to blind-buy purchase Jim Davis' Rescue 8. It's too bad TGG Direct couldn't seem to make things work long term because I think shows like this would be a good fit alongside their ZIV releases.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

The Dukes of Hazzard will no longer be shown on TV Land because TV Land has no use for any show older than 20 years except for perhaps Gunsmoke and Andy Griffith. They've been gradually moving away from their Classic TV roots for years and are currently launching a rebranding campaign to...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Yeah, right before I contacted Amazon I tried both discs just in case. Both really were Disc 3. I agree with you that when it comes to Shout Factory never underestimate the possibility of something crazy happening, like a Disc 1 with Disc 3 labeling; but not this time.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

This seems like the best thread to tell this story since it relates to a B/W purchase. Today, I received an Amazon order of several items, including Mister Ed: The Complete Series. As I'm checking the discs to make sure everything's okay, I find that in the Season 2 box within the complete...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I agree. In my mind, it seems highly unlikely that we'll ever see an official B&A release. And yet, the last couple of years have brought a number of pleasant surprises (both for color and B/W shows) which I would never have expected. So I can't quite bring myself to completely give up hope that...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Gary, regarding your fears about O&H, look on the bright side. At least there's an attempt being made to put that series out. Whether it actually happens at all or in part is still unknown, but at least there's some hope. With one of my most wanted/grail series, Burns & Allen, there's no...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

As a less downbeat follow-up to my last post, I can say that even though B&W output has slowed down in general, the B&W portion of my TV series collection is increasing this month. With the various end-of-year online sales and coupons, I've purchased the Complete Naked City DVD set, the...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I would be more personally disappointed about what happened with Timeless if it hadn't focused almost exclusively on westerns. While I did purchase their Stoney Burke and Whiplash sets as blind buys due to the presence of Jack Lord and Peter Graves, respectively, I otherwise had no interest in...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

50s Dragnet and Burns & Allen remain 2 of my most wanted unreleased shows. It's beyond annoying that 2 such successful, long-running series have nothing available beyond a few low-quality PD discs.
