For those complaining about lack of BOGO sales, Amazon has a sale right now on a number of BDs. In some cases, up to 55% off.....which is equivalent to a BOGO in many cases. Not a bad deal considering this time of year is slow for sales in general.
Pretty good read here. SEMICON REPORT: Losers And Winners In Blu-ray Victory To quote part of it: An increase in the number of chip building for Blu-ray seems destined to speed up chip commoditization and price declines. And consumers will be the winners. Sigma Design's Lowe said it's...
Not sure which free Blu-ray players you're talking about (I didn't get one), but the HD DVD camp - as a whole - is extraordinarily dedicated and some might call it "cult like" at this point in time if you read many of the forums today. A lot of HD DVD folks I know were on a mission to buy this...
I think BD had 10% more sales, not 5% (55% vs 45% is a 10% difference or 10 point difference as they say in political election numbers). It's also true HD DVD had a two month head start on BD which *may* have slightly influenced numbers. A lot of purple folks bought the HD DVD version first...
You know, it's funny. I remember when my parents bought our first VCR ~1980 (RCA for $1000). I was eight years old. I remember being at a video rental store with them just before they bought their player and remember the guy working there saying to go with VHS over Beta. Our neighbors had Beta...
It's not that they didn't like BD, but I think the reason was political like MANY things within studios. Nickerson was pro-HD DVD and was giving "neutral" folks more reason to support HD DVD just like the missing 25 titles, etc. When Warner released Matrix on the same day as Pirates I and II was...
Any news like this moving forward should NOT be a surprise. The Warner announcement was the definitive announcement in this format war and will just continue the domino effect.
The consumer essentially did decide as Blu-ray won every week of Nielson software sales in 2007 and sold more standalones during "crunch time" in December. I understand you like both formats, however, most consumers, retailers, manufacturers, and studios believe it's time for one format.
Adam, I don't think this is true. I believe it has been verified by several video experts including Kris Deering that the Sony, Pioneer, and PS3 in fact do this. And, I *think* the latest Toshiba firmware for the XA2 allows it.
I think that's largely a result of the short-term (lack of vision) thinking that's been happening with many corporations today. I mean too often the case is you have CEOs and high level executives concerned more about how many millions they can bring home for themselves this year and next -...
I think something like this was a "must" for HD DVD to survive - especially with Fox coming back on board to release titles, HD DVD needed another major studio advantage in time for the fall/winter. And, this was HUGE. While I've been favoring Blu-ray to pull this thing out and I speculated...
