LOL. Very true. @Lil Brutto You may want to reconsider directly posting those pics from professor Flueckiger's site here or anywhere else. There could be copyright on them. Check the copyright notice at the top of her site.

On the site of the Cineteca di Bologna, the Cineteca Nazionale is thanked for their involvement with the 4K restoration: Of course I don't know what exactly they are thanked for but they were involved.

You should ask professor Flueckiger that. Or contact Cineteca di Bologna who own the print and are responsible for the 4K restoration that we have on the MGM BD. I doubt you'll get answers to your questions here. Btw, you have every right to contact the professor because ... The database with...

You're welcome. I'm not a member of the other site, I don't even read the forum there. Can't be bothered. I actually posted the link to illustrate once again what Robert Harris posted about the myth of dye transfer printing. Some of the pics look awfully close to what we have on the MGM BD ...

Hey Oliver, if you or anyone want answers to these questions you could ask them Ms or Mrs Flueckiger yourself as she posts on "The Colorist & Color Grading Forum". See: http://www.liftgammagain.com/forum/index.php?threads/the-good-the-bad-and-the-ugly-by-sergio-leone-1966.9264/ Personally I...

Dozens of pics from the technicolor dye-transfer safety print owned by Cineteca di Bologna can be found here: http://zauberklang.ch/filmcolors/galleries/il-buono-il-brutto-il-cattivo-1966/ I guess they might have used this as their reference for their restoration. Hmm, dare I say it, it looks...

That's nice. Well, that didn't last long. I guess I'm naive, fine by me. I'm not going to respond any further, I should have known where this was going when the term straw man was first introduced in this thread. I've said all I have to say about TGTBTU, 50's CinemaScope etc. here and in...

That's all very nice but it doesn't say anything about anything. Look, I appreciate what you're doing, I think I even introduced your work here on the forum, but it doesn't convince me that you are absolutely right and the people at L'Immagine Ritrovita are absolutely wrong. I'm not going to...

Probably true. I never defended the Kino. I have defended the MGM and still stand by my words that it is not as bad as some people make it out to be. Funny, when I say "All these professional and well respected film restorers" it should be clear that I'm talking about professionals in the film...

You're absolutely right but that doesn't mean that the average film fan that posts on dvd forums knows better. I think the first time I saw The Good, The Bad And The Ugly was on a small 22 inch black and white tv. And I enjoyed it. We are indeed spoiled rotten.

Yep, that's what I told Oliver earlier in the thread, and I believe Kino plans to use this restoration for their upcoming BD ... Start looking for dye transfer prints I'd say. I find this all a bit silly. It reminds of all the complaints about teal looking CinemaScope movies from the fifties...

No in Robert's answer you quoted he said: "ANY dye transfer print used as reference is a bit of a fool's errand, unless one has a CORRECT dye transfer print." There's no way of telling if your 7 dye transfer prints are correct unless you would check them against the reference. Have you done...

It seems to me that if Kino had used the fan provided release prints as reference they would have done a half assed job as well. As I understand Robert's post about dye transfer printing and his answer to Lil Brutto, it does not matter how many (1, 5 or 10) run of the mill prints you have...

Yes, that's what I meant to write. It may be instructive to re-read Robert Harris' post about the myth of dye transfer printing again: https://www.hometheaterforum.com/community/threads/a-few-words-about-™-the-myth-of-dye-transfer-printing.336967/ Especially: Given that fact I can...

Aren't you kind of using a straw man argument here ;)? Anyway, I believe that L'Immagine Ritrovata has now restored all Leone films and no doubt we'll be seeing all of them sooner or later on BD (three of them already are and I believe Kino will be using Ritrovata's restoration for their...

I assume Kino just has the rights for Region A so who knows, maybe for Region B some other company will pick it up (Arrow for instance).

The words urine and/or piss may be only mentioned in this thread by Haineshisway but he is certainly right that some people used those words when the MGM was released in 2014. A simple search on this board will tell you that. I'm not a member of the other dvd forum nor do I follow threads there...

Oliver, I don't see any clipped whites in that shot to be honest. Sure it's a lot brighter than the MGM but they're standing in the Mexican desert in full sunshine in the middle of the day. The MGM looks like it was shot on a winter's day with dawn approaching in comparison. I can see clipped...

I remember the DVD as a bit of a brown mess (just like the MGM BD which is using the same master I believe). What's wrong with this: Images courtesy of this Italian review: http://www.avmagazine.it/articoli/software/878/giu-la-testa_index.html Like I said it's been a while since I've...

I don't have any problems with the German releases of A Fistful of Dollars and For a Few Dollars More. Both look and sound great to me. Also the Italian BD of A Fistful of Dynamite is quite good and much much better than the MGM. It's been a while since I've seen them though.

Based on the screencaps I've seen so far, Glenn is spot-on about the Kino BD when he says "it has weak color and low contrast. Blacks are not black and the whole image is washed out." and his concluding assessment of the picture quality is "fair". What else do you need a reviewer to tell you...

With his background in the movie industry I value Glenn Erickson's simple "scale of Excellent, Good, Fair, and Poor" much higher than many other DVD and BD reviewers' opinions. I don't need a lot of empty words by people who have never seen a single strip of film up close in their entire life to...
