    Agreed. I would concede that forcing viewers to watch a "windowboxed" 16x9 encoded 1.55:1 image that is clearly framed on all 4 sides with black matting on their 4x3 set might be just a tad annoying for the small increase in 16x9 res... good thing that 1.66:1 content doesn't create such...

    Ken, Good numbers. To be exact, 1.5:1 is the ratio exactly between 4x3 and 16x9. Anything narrower than 1.5 would get better resolution in a 4x3 frame and anything wider would get better resolution in a 16x9 frame. 1.66:1 is much closer to 16x9 than 4x3 so, as you say, it's not (to us here...

    Mark, I may just have to do this. Beats me why 16x9 TVs and projectors (and other progressive-scan DVD players) just can't have a "1.66:1 zoom" mode to go along with the usual zoom... This feature alone makes the Malata worth while!
