On Dangerous Ground is not only one of my favorite noirs, it's one of my favorite films period. Warner is my favorite studio when it comes to DVD, but I was (and still am) sorely disappointed in this particular transfer.
Kiss Me Deadly is brilliant. Definitely in my top 10 favorite noirs. I'd love a full-on restoration and a ton of supplements, but I'm far from unhappy with the current DVD. But The Big Combo absolutely NEEDS some attention. Hopefully someday....
Oh wow, those MGM noir covers are gorgeous. I missed "The Woman in the Window" at the Noir festival here in Portland, Oregon last weekend, so I'll definitely be picking it up (and the other three too, of course).
It all depends on your definition of "film noir." In my definition, a femme fatale is certainly not a requirement. However, CASABLANCA doesn't reside in the noir section of my DVD collection. Yes, it's in black and white, and yes, it's got Bogie, but I consider it a romance first and foremost...
Encouraging news regarding the presumed-dead Fox Film Noir series! This comes straight from Eddie Muller in the latest Noir Sentinel: "I’m not sure why Fox lost its momentum last fall, but another three titles, none of them are Boomerang or The Brasher Doubloon, will be coming soon. From...
Nothing official yet, but it's widely assumed that THE BRASHER DOUBLOON will be one of them (given the fact that noir authority Eddie Muller has recorded a commentary track for it). Regarding the three latest Fox noirs, I'll have to extend my search to Border's. They'll probably have 'em, but...
Speaking of Fox noirs, weren't the latest three titles (Fourteen Hours, Shock, and Vickie) supposed to come out today? I hit both Best Buy and Circuit City on my lunch hour, and came up empty at both....
Hey, I meant to ask this a few days ago.... did any of you folks attend the Noir City 4 film festival in San Francisco in January? And on a related note, are any of you planning on being there in January 2007? I'm hoping to be there...
Congrats, Greg. And congrats to you too, Irina, for being so generous. Rich, the blueberry pie clue was hilarious. :D My mailing address should be landing in your PM box any second now. Thanks again!
Greg: I had the same problem.... till I put quotation marks around the quotes as a last resort. Oh, and using just a portion of the quote instead of the entire thing (for example: "I haven't shot a man in a week" yielded a link which included Murder, My Sweet in the text). Rich: Again, thanks...
I know the movie, but I'll be damned if I know the specific reference(s). I'll bet my good friend (and fellow HTFer from way back) Bill Huelbig would know it, but he's apparently not playing.
