Oh man, that movie has a large contingent of diehard fans, and they clearly view it that way.
It's one of the worst-made "A"-list films I've ever seen - just directorial incompetence on a level one doesn't see for big studio films too often.
But lots of people love it!
I think Streep should...
People are saying WS didn't publicly apologize to CR, but he did.
Not sure why the format somehow diminishes this. Does WS have to physically meet with CR to apologize for it to "count"?
He already did:
"In a post on Instagram on Monday afternoon, Smith called his behavior "unacceptable and inexcusable."
'Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada's medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally," he wrote. "I would like to...
My point is that maybe you specifically wrote "GaGa" over time and the phone picked up on that.
I'm betting I type "Gaga" more than you and it's never tried to correct that to "GaGa"! :)
Hmm. iPhone autocorrect often does so based on what the user enters, so that should mean your "GaGa" reflects your own patterns.
It doesn't AC "Gaga" for me! <_<
Why do some people write "GaGa" like that? Because the Queen song was "Radio Ga Ga"?
Not picking on Tino explicitly. Just seen it a lot over the years but it's wrong.
Gaga. Not GaGa or Ga Ga.
Yeah. Reba has clearly had lots of work done, but she still looks like a recognizable human being. A kind of off-looking human being and not wholly natural-looking, but not stop-you-in-your-tracks-what-the-hell-happened-there off.
Dolly? Seems to be a lovely person but man... way way way too...
I dunno - maybe.
I doubt either Dunst or Plemons were shocked they lost - disappointed, I'm sure, but both knew they were long-shots.
I also suspect KD and JP agreed to go along with the gag in advance, like with the men in King's COVID routine.
The vast majority of these "surprise" bits that...
As I mention above, the Academy hopes if they ignore it, it'll dry up and go away.
And they're right. The modern news cycle is relentless.
Which is why various figures can now get away with scandals that previously would've destroyed them.
There's always a new scandal to cover.
To be fair, I don't see a "good solution" for the Academy here.
Make a stink and keep it in the news cycle longer?
They just want to move on, so I think they'll ignore it right now as much as possible and wait for the news cycle to move to a Shiny New Toy.
Of course, even if that works, it...
Yes. My mom had breast cancer and she freaked out about possibly losing her hair.
My dad started to go bald at 23 and never gave much thought to it along the way.
Hair loss for women is a totally different thing than for men. We commonly lose our hair - they don't.
Yeah, I definitely didn't think it was the set-in-stone "tradition" of the acting categories.
Though the pattern of the last few years makes it look like they were leaning that way.
Perhaps they wanted Zhao to present but she couldn't attend?
Yeah, Smith said to himself "I think I'll completely crap on the crowning moment of my career to create some watercooler talk for the Oscars".
That makes total sense.
Reaction to Will slapping Wanda Sykes would've been massively negative - just as the reaction to Billy Crystal feeling up a bunch of hot actresses for a "COVID test" would've been catastrophic.
Gender impacts perception.
Especially because it's bad buzz. This doesn't cast the Oscars in a good light.
Not that it's the Academy's fault, or whatever.
But it's not like they're getting positive publicity. People are using this as a (bizarre) example of how society has gone into the crapper!
Mean how? Because you think it implies that Dunst's career is in the crapper?
Not how I saw it - and that wouldn't make sense given Dunst was there as a nominee.
The joke was that Schumer wanted to hit on Plemons so she pretended Dunst was a seat-filler.
No deeper meaning or insult involved...
Is it actually tradition for the Best Director winner to come back and present the next year?
I know it is for actors but I didn't recall that this trickled down to the other categories...
Well, it's about power, and since men have always had the power, it's viewed differently.
In a perfect world, both forms of objectivization would be equally tasteless... but we're not there yet.
Not defending the bit - I get why it seems like part of a double standard - but social...
No way it was a bit. Rock was obviously shaken at the end - he really stumbled when he tried to get back to the nominees.
Pretty clear Rock didn't know about JPS's alopecia.
Kinda feel bad for him - he wouldn't have made the joke if he knew, obviously.
But then again, maybe he should've...
