    Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)

A Queen movie from an era with no songs general fans will know that ends with death - smells like a hit to me! :D

    Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)

You responded to a post that I made almost 3 months ago and I'm the one who needs to let it go???

Pretty sure the prequel would focus on his time on Tatooine and his mother Shmi...

    Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)

Sure, they have. Comments like "I don't care that it's inaccurate because I enjoyed the movie" are "justification"...

    Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)

Already said I don't care if people like the movie, I'm happy if people enjoy the movie. I just find the hoops through which some jump to justify the fiction to perplex me...

    Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)

Millions of people saw "JFK" - one of the most ludicrous collections of lies ever put on screen - as fact. Why wouldn't most people accept "BR" as accurate? Do you think the millions who saw it went home to research the facts/fiction?

    Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)

The "damage" is that millions of people now believe the movie's lies. They'll think that Queen broke up, etc., whereas these events never happened. No, it's not "damaging" in the way lies from the White House are damaging, but I think it's a bad thing when fiction becomes commonly accepted as...

    Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)

As I noted, my objections to the film go waaaay beyond the fictionalization. That third act is a disaster of soap opera proportions - it's so melodramatic and absurd that I'm surprised my eyes ever returned to their normal position after all the rolling. But even if I'd loved it, I'd be...

And "Argo" got ample criticism for that - as it should have...

    Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)

I'm 100% fine with anyone's enjoyment of the film. Even if I ignore the factual issues, I think it's a poorly made movie - I'd dislike it even without the massive fictional elements - but I never begrudge anyone their happiness. I just don't get the "who cares???" argument about the lies. If...

    Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)

Though the father/Freddie stuff felt awfully "Jazz Singer" to me, I can easily accept that aspects of that relationship were true. The idea that they but the notion of parental resistance to Freddie's lifestyle and his decision to go into music doesn't bug me.... Of course, the scenes

    Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)

I never saw "Miller" so I can't reflect on that, but the "everybody does it" defense doesn't fly for me either. Yes, biopics often take liberties. However, as you say, most don't go to this one's extremes, and most don't do so with the perplexing approval of major parties involved! I'll never...

    Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)

So how far does this reach? If they made a movie about JFK's assassination that made Bob Dylan the shooter, that'd be A-OK as long as it entertained you? BTW, this extends to movies that clearly want us to see them as accurate. Obviously this wouldn't extend to movies that we know intend to...

    Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)

When we get to the point where criticizing a movie because it invents radically fictional aspects of a "true story" makes you a "bitcher", I think there's something wrong. Sorry, you can't shame me into saying that the huge lies in the movie are okay...

    Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)

So if Paul McCartney signed off on a biopic in which Linda leaves him in 1977 and they reunited in 1980, you'd be fine with that, even though it never happened? I don't really care about the nitpicky stuff in "BR", but the massive fictionalization is a problem - and the fact the surviving band...

    Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)

That's a lot of it. None of us remember the events in "Lawrence of Arabia" but I'm betting most of us remember Live Aid! It's also more grating because some of the surviving band members signed off on it. They lived it and still said "go ahead and make up all sorts of nonsense" - that bugs me...

    Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)

The movie doesn't suggest the band split up in the early 80s and reunited for Live Aid - it says it. When Freddie tries to get them back together, Roger even says something like "but we haven't played together for years!" This is true - if 2 months since their last gig is "years". Maybe Roger...

    Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)

I don't think knowing a band never broke up is the same as digging into their personal lives. Knowing Babe Ruth hit 714 home runs doesn't mean you have to be aware of his personal life. I really find it shocking that a "huge fan" would have no idea that the band never split up!

    Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)

So your wife is a huge Queen fan and she didn't know they didn't break up and then reunite for Live Aid?
