Oh, I agree. I said "MM2" turned a good profit.
And I think a 3rd would make some money, but not much if the grosses continue to slide.
That's why I wondered how well fans received "MM2". Did it make money because of lingering love for the original or did it make money because fans liked it...
I was wondering on a broader scale than you, dude! ;)
"MM2" got better reviews than the original. Both have identical 66% audience scores on RT, while they're almost the same (6.4 original, 6.7 sequel) on IMDB.
Leaves the impression fans liked 'em about the same I guess! "MM" has almost 3...
I guess the concern would be that Chapter 3 would drop substantially again. Though if they kept the budget at $75m, a $270m or so WW gross would still mean a little profit! :)
The question becomes how popular the franchise really is. Did fans really like Part 2 or did it sell tickets just...
I'm surprised they'd want a 3rd movie because the 2nd one showed a big decline in ticket sales.
If the reported $75 million budget is correct, it still turned a nice profit, but it lost about 1/3rd of the first movie's take.
The sequel was a much better movie than the 1st. It's not good, but...
Good point. IIRC, that case was somewhat unusual because the character needed to have a GREAT voice, whereas most musicals don't require such high standards...
But it's a very different situation if you're lip-synching to your own vocals.
Of course very few movies force the actors to sing live on the set, but at least those actors' vocals are their own.
As noted, animated movies offer some singer/actor splits, but in this day and age, it's pretty...
I've not seen the new movie, so I'm not commenting on his work in it.
I still have nightmares about his vocals in the first movie, though!:eek::eek:
I'm sure there still is SOME dubbing in modern Hollywood. For instance, I'd be shocked to learn that Rami Malek does his own vocals in the new Queen movie - I assume they'll use original Freddie tracks.
In general, though, I'd think there's less tolerance for that by audiences - and also...
That I have - and the original "MM" is one of the most awful movies I've seen, especially if one considers the talent involved.
At least the sequel has a new director. I won't claim a better director would've made "MM" good, but Phyllida Lloyd's utter incompetence behind the camera was one of...
I was gonna go via one of those free "Gofobo" events... but then I remembered "hey, I have AMC A-List' - why go out of my way to see the movie when I can watch it during regular release for 'free'?"
I was gonna go via AMC A-List but then I remembered "hey, the first movie was one of the most...
Clearly not! :)
I guess we won't know for sure whether Cher is supposed to be "present day" Streep's mother or "30 years ago" Streep's mother, but the synopsis on Wiki implies the former:
"Ten years later, in the greek island of Kalokairi, Sophie is pregnant with Sky and runs her mother's...
The first movie was always a mess in terms of logic. From my review:
"Would someone explain the chronology of the story to me? I get the feeling that the movie’s supposed to take place in 2008, as the fashions sure look current, and references to the Internet seem to set the tale in the...
