Updating my little thread to say I've "adjusted" to the LG set and like it very much! I'm gonna give it a few more weeks and get it calibrated - can't wait to see how it fares after that!
Oh, and I ordered a UHD BD player tonight, so I look forward to 4K BDs on the new set.
As soon as I get...
Great - thanks! Obviously I'm still working through all of this! :)
I think I had the OLED Light set at 80 for the one 3D movie I watched and it looked great - I had no feeling of "too dark" imagery.
I also watched a 2D BD with the OLED Light set at 30 and thought it did some less "jacked up"...
It's funny: my 'critical picture viewing faculties" essentially turn off when I'm at somebody else's house, but when I'm in my home theater, I become much pickier.
As I've implied, I know what my TVs look like, and I'm very accustomed to the Panny plasmas, so going to something different is a...
Could be. The C65 may be a superior reproduction of the source but I'm so used to plasma after 8 years and 2 different sets that anything else looks "weird" to me...
Yes, all that nonsense is disabled, and sharpness is low. The "ISF Professional" setting on the TV actually does all that on...
Dunno about recommended time frame. I mentioned a desire to get the set "broken in" to the calibrator and he responded "an OLED only needs about 50 hours of break in time compared to other technologies"...
So I finally got the C65 all hooked up and running. Initial impressions based on a very limited sample (ie, 2 movies):
1) The curve appears to be a total non-factor. I can barely detect it from my "viewing position", and I see no indications of screen distortions. Perhaps If I wasn't...
Haven't hooked it up yet! Went out of town literally the day after it arrived and haven't gotten home yet so I've not had a chance to give it a look!
Might have to wait a few days after I DO get back - I still haven't figured out where to put the old 60" so I gotta work out the...
Thanks!
My "old" Panny plasma spoiled me - its THX settings were really satisfying so I felt no need to much too much with them.
Guess I'll have to put more work into the LG, though I do plan to get professional calibration for this one - I just want to have some good settings as a stopgap...
Decision finally made: went with the C6!
Played "price roulette" for a while there - literally as soon as I decided to buy, my preferred vendor jacked up their price $300!
Waited a week and it came back down - and then some. It's now $50 cheaper than what I paid! :(
Well, at least that...
I will use the set solely for stuff I watch on Blu-ray or DVD. I'm buying it as a set to use for reviews for my website, and I literally never watch any non-disc-based content on it.
So it's gonna be 90% movies, really...
Yeah, it's probably a good idea for me to at least give the thing a look in person. I doubt I'd mind the curve - it seems to be pretty subtle from what most say and I'm sure I'd adapt - but it'd make sense for me to see it for myself first. Thanks for the idea!
Thanks!
So what is it about the E that supposedly makes it superior? There's gotta be SOME reason people pay so much more money for it!
Edit: other than the flat screen, I can't find any evidence of aspects of the E6 that make it superior in terms of picture. Seems like it's the same...
I know the 65E6P offers superior performance compared to the 65C6P, and I'd prefer the E's flat screen.
That said...
Big price difference! I can get a C for $1000 less than an E.
So what am I losing if I get the C instead of the E in terms of performance? Am I really going to see $1000 of...
