Yup. I think the only way it'd be remotely possible would be to reissue the movie as a "Director's Cut" and tell fans it won't be out on video for another year after that. Such a release - which ain't gonna happen - might muster the needed money but even then, it could be tough...
I went to "TFA" for the 3rd time last week. I saw it at DC's Uptown, which has always been regarded as "the place" to see "Star Wars" in the area.
Gotta admit I was underwhelmed. Maybe other screens have simply caught up with the Uptown - what used to seem like a huge screen doesn't seem as...
No, it's not really a remake. It nods at "Wrath" at times - and directly quotes one scene - but the two aren't nearly similar enough for it to be a "remake"...
I don't think that's a fair assessment at all. Abrams doesn't just "slavishly reproduce" the originals. "TFA" isn't the 1998 "Psycho" - it's not a literal recreation of the original.
Honestly, the whole "'Force Awakens' is a remake of 'Star Wars'" thing has gotten blown way out of...
It means the poster is super-smart 'n' stuff and doesn't gobble down whatever The System shovels our way, unlike all of the sheep who like the movie, of course!
I think Abrams was already successful enough to essentially do whatever he wanted - the notion he's just some puppet who does what the studio tells him to do makes no sense.
The cynicism from some in this thread depresses me - and it's usually people who've not seen the movie who are nastiest...
IIRC, Lando started to mack on Leia the second he met her, and I don't think he knew Han and Leia were an item at that point.
He saw a hot woman and went after her - no harm in that! :)
Don't you think this accomplishment is cheapened by the amount of time it'll have taken "Force" to get there? I mean, two and a half weeks is forever - it's really limping to the finish line! ;)
I'm with you two. While I found Han's death to be curiously unemotional the first time I saw the movie, it got to me the second time. I guess I was still "processing" so much about the movie that I wasn't ready for such a major sequence, but the scene hit home on subsequent viewing.
I think...
I saw it at the Arizona Mills IMAX screen and it looked to partially fill the IMAX screen. It didn't seem to "go all the way" but it definitely expanded quite a bit...
I'm far too lazy to dig out my copy and find the research, but I'm pretty sure "Secret History of Star Wars" debunks the notion that DV was always planned to be Luke's father.
IIRC, that notion doesn't appear at all until 3 or 4 drafts into the "ESB" screenplay...
The Oscars have always recognized true "cultural phenomena". "Jaws" got a BP nom two years before "Star Wars", and Spielberg got a Best Director nom for "CE3K". "The Exorcist" got a BP nom in 1973, and "Raiders" and "ET" were nominated for BP, as well.
"Avatar" and "Titanic" are modern...
"Clones" is the only "Star Wars" movie I didn't see more than once theatrically. I saw "Phantom Menace" three times - part of that was simple excitement that "Star Wars" was back, but I also did actually like the movie. Flawed as it was, I enjoyed it for the most part.
I've come to think...
I might have seen it again by now but I already committed to a "true IMAX" viewing with my dad on 12/28, so I'm waiting until then.
We bought tickets before I saw "TFA", and I admit I was a little nervous that I might not want to see it a second time so soon after the first. Not a huge...
Did Maz actually train Rey? I don't recall that - I just remember her saying "hey kid - have a lightsaber!" and that was that. I might be forgetting something, though.
Your wife does have a good point - to a degree. Even if we view Luke/Rey as having similar (lack of) training, I think Rey...
