"Sweet" (forgotten anniversary) was by far the best of the night. I didn't care for any of the others really. I thought Antoine Fuqua made some good comments, especially to Kenny re: trusting those around him rather than trying to do it all himself. I think the funniest part was seeing Kenny get...
I didn't mind Shalini's message, but I groaned at the whole "change" pun. And I agree the real versions of people were confusing, my main issue being the inconsistency of what their inner selves looked like. First we have a man with a cane simply be spry and then a street cleaner be a buddhist...
I rewatched Zack's and it is clearly the best of the bunch. I think the only thing it needed was some movement coaching for the actors, but this would only be to make it go from an "A" to "A-plus."
Garry Marshall continues his un-PC comments by misidentifying the language in "Dr. In Law" as Korean (it was Chinese - Mandarin and Cantonese) and then his cracks about the host's dress and the blonde behind him. But the show wouldn't be the same without him. Sperm Bank was typical bad...
The awkward greet between Kenny and Adriana was the most entertaining part of the show :). I did like Kenny's piece and totally agreed with the two male judges. Fisher started to sound like an old codger harping about "music videos." "Dance with the Devil" was very trailer-esque. The guy...
So has the process of how contestants get their films made been explained? Or what they are provided? I was surprised by Trever saying he had to pull in favors from old profs and classmates. It made me wonder if these were the films they made to audition for the show.
It may have been hypocritical, but it also showed how something "inappropriate" or taboo can be effective if handled properly. That was the most interesting aspect of the show - having more than a few of the directors do potty humor but only the last one really do it right. "Soft" also...
I like the show (albeit I didn't catch the premiere). It reminds me of going to a film festival. Some shorts work, others don't. What's most interesting is when two directors handle similar material and one works better than the other. Hopefully the show will have this as one of the challenges.
