    I believe that is correct. it's 750 for 720p and 1125 for 1080

I would say that Jason's DVD cap versus the HD cap is fairly representative of what I see between DVD content and HD source content in my system and with various other systems as well. The original DVD cap looks way too soft, and fairly poor, IMO. FYI: My system is an 8-inch EM CRT driven...

David: maybe someday when I have children I'll be motivated to check out the Chicken little DVD. ;) As it stands right now, I have a hard enough time watching a movie I'm not interested in just because it has a very good transfer, let alone one that I'd watch just for the BAD transfer. :b...

It's official: BOTH Blu-ray and HD-DVD downrez component

David: I can't say I watch any disney films, but I've not been seeing too many problems with overfiltering of newer DVDs, more often it's low bitrate limitations due to too many spurious extras and soundtracks. We are definitely on the same page however. I wish this was not a limitation...

It's official: BOTH Blu-ray and HD-DVD downrez component

From the folks working directly with studios doing encoding, it is clear that they are no longer vertically filtering DVD content, nor are they filtering HF content either to conform with NTSC specs, since it is not a broadcast format. Certainly there are some filtered DVDs or poorly authored...

It's official: BOTH Blu-ray and HD-DVD downrez component

This is not true. 1) Most content is no longer filtered, there is little reason to do so. The chroma issue is an interesting one, but not as significant as others. Mainly, higher bitrate capabilities and better compression, and HD source native that's downscaled will be getting the...

It's official: BOTH Blu-ray and HD-DVD downrez component

The quote from sony about MPEG2 being superior to VC1 or h.264 is complete nonsense on its face. From Stacey: "Sony does not have a VC-1 encoder at this point."

I do not recall it being said that Macrovision ever degraded the PQ.

Also, I think that would be interpreted as an illegal search if this was not done with a warrant. This was ruled in a case with lighting use with home-growers, where IR equipment was used to detect large amounts of lighting inside a residence, clearly used in an illegal growing operation...

It's official: BOTH Blu-ray and HD-DVD downrez component

This is a pointless argument. I already admitted it, fine I don't care. Feel free to prove your legal/intellectual prowess elsewhere. It's silly, and completely off topic from the subject of this thread, really. So what if it's illegal, it's illegal to burn music CDs too? Who cares, nobody is...

Fine, I'm an outlaw, and so are thousands of other people who use distributed video server systems.

This isn't settled at ALL. There are many products made and sold in the US that do exactly this, or rely on this. If I have the legal right to fair use, and there is a conflicting legal right to prevent CSS decryption, there is an unsettled conflict in law. Don't be ridiculous and inflammatory.

Point where it's said in law. It can easily be argued that it is actually legally protected fair use to copy a DVD for personal or archival use. Because of the nature of CSS encryption, this fair use is in conflict with cracking CSS. Is it illegal to crack CSS for legally protected uses? This...

It's official: BOTH Blu-ray and HD-DVD downrez component

How about the studios start making some movies that are actually worth pirating!? How about THAT for a radical idea. :frowning: Instead we're stuck with a bunch of garbage: sequels, remakes, and just generally idiotic and uncreative popcorny nonsense. Maybe I should be angrier at the...

Amir at Microsoft confirmed this, 960x540 pixel rate or lower. There are still confusing questions about implementation and chroma and things like that. Little has been said about framerate either, could 540p at 48hz still pass if it's in PsF? I don't know. Curious indeed.
