How Many of You Don't go to Commercial Theaters Anymore?

I started this thread a long time ago, and my feelings have only gotten stronger. In summary, not only does a home theater have the potential to sound up to 10,000% better than a commercial theater, a home theater offers tactile feedback, 3-D motion, and other amenities commercial theaters are...

How Many of You Don't go to Commercial Theaters Anymore?

As much as I wanted to see "Lord of the Rings" I am going to watch it tomorrow with friends in my theater. If I really had the guts I'd hold out to buy the extended version in November! I don't know anything about this movie and I am very good at avaoiding previews and spoilers, so this movie...

My understanding is that the Marantz DLP Projector with the Faroudja de-interlacing chip is currently the 'top-dog' in DLP. Current best price I've seen, other than importing from Japan, is $7800.00 Chris

How Many of You Don't go to Commercial Theaters Anymore?

There are multiple reasons to discuss this topic: 1) General Diffrences in home theater and commercial theater environments 2) technical and performance differences 3) Wish lists for both home theater and commercial theaters 4) DVD and the need for HD-DVD 5) Improvements that need...

How Many of You Don't go to Commercial Theaters Anymore?

Hi Robert, I guess I should have said top of the line 9 inch CRT, but that assumes you still have total light control, and a minimum of $20,000 to spend (for instance a Sony G-90 can be had for around $19,000 B-stock and $23,000 factory sealed A-stock). Of course you have to deal with much...

I will see Episode 2, just because I already know about it, and I can't supress my desire to see it, so I will be going to King of Prussia to see that movie. I enjoy NOT knowing qwhat else is coming out, as I do not watch 'TV' very often. Even so I would change the channel if I saw a preview...

How Many of You Don't go to Commercial Theaters Anymore?

I certainly didn't meant to come off as a snob or elitest. The reason I DON'T go to the COMMERCIAL theater is because I get a BIGGER IMPACT, MORE VERTIGO, MORE OF A YOU ARE THERE SENSATION AT HOME! So for those who keep saying that the BIG SCREEN is the only way to see "Lords of the Ring"...

I disagree, With a 100 inch screen the point becomes moot with a 11 foot viewing distance. Further, everything else is/can be unquestionably much better. I don't need a 50 foot screen to sit 50 feet away. What I do need though is HD-DVD.

How Many of You Don't go to Commercial Theaters Anymore?

I don't see too many new DVD's that are poorly mastered to the point of being 'significantly' degraded, although you make a good argument for HD-DVD, which I hope comes to fruition ASAP! HD-DVD is a must. Something tells me that when I see the LORD OF THE RINGS on DVD, I'll get to a possibly...

How Many of You Don't go to Commercial Theaters Anymore?

The last movie I went to see in a commercial theater is GLADIATOR. Ever since I got my HT in full swing, I have lost all desire to go to a commercial theater. The experience at home equals or even far exceeds even the best commercial theaters in all aspects: 1) Sound (far exceeds), 2) Tactile...
