Curtis Chang corrected me on that a week or so ago over on AVS. I'd forgotten I had the wrong info here too.

I've heard the previous generation HTD3 w/o a ribbon tweeter at a get together on a tube amp. They were near the bottom in everyone's opinion. I heard them the next day on a very powerful amp and they became one of my favorites.
