Just tossing out the idea, now that the season is over and the fallout from Detroit's victory is there (congratulating the Pistons, analyzing why the vast majority of people who know the sport well made such a huge mistake in predicting the Finals, etc.), is it time to put this thread to rest...

I know exactly what you mean Casey, and alluded to a similar situation myself when I said how the Spurs were the more capable team then the Lakers in terms of current ability, but got creamed in the mental aspect and believed they couldn't win, even if they could. You have to have all aspects to...

You know Jan, you may want to get that obsession with fishing checked out. You are arguably the most angrily defensive person to post in this entire thread. From back in December when the Lakers were on a tear and you publicly called me out to the fact that you have stated a few times you feel...

It does make for an interesting set of questions, how would Team X match up against Team Y in the Finals. From the West, had SA or Minny advanced instead of LA, I'm gonna agree with Casey that Minny would have the easier time of it. THey have more offensive options and are more diffuse through...

I'll be honest, I really strongly dislike the Lakers. In my mind they, as one team, represent many of the problems in current NBA basketball. They're selfish, don't play well as a team, and only play at all when they feel like it. There's no consistency to their effort, and the only reason they...

I didn't play the injury card. I merely pointed out that it took no small amount of luck to get where LA is. Fisher's shot was a miracle, and incredibly unlikely. If it had missed, the Lakers would have lost the series. It went in, and they won, but it's fair to point out that it took a miracle...

You know, after my strong commetns in the Spurs-Lakers series I hesitate to say this, but this series is really confirming what I've felt for a while. This year's Lakers, while definitely a good team, aren't a great one, or even close. They needed a miracle to beat the Spurs (want to know what...

Can the Pistons afford him? With trying to keep Rasheed, they're already pretty strapped for cash I though, and T-mac will undoubtedly fetch top-dollar from whoever signs him.

Well, after three weeks of torture trying to get my iBook back from Apple (they mailed it to the wrong address after a repair) I'm finally back. Don't have a lot to say, but there was a reason this Spurs fan was being kept out of the thread, I didn't have my comptuer to post from and didn't want...

Oh hell, you're right Seth, my mistake. I meant that cutback over Brown and just stuck the wrong name in there. Of course it was Brown Parker went over, not Fisher. Oops.

    2003-2004 NBA Season

If that's what we see, it's because those two teams have earned the right to be there. San Antonio has to go through a Memphis team with nothing to lose, the Lakers, and the winner of Sac/Minny to get to the finals. Detroit's path isn't much easier with the two-time Eastern conference champions...

First, quick props to my Spurs. They played a good first half, took LA's worst in the third quarter, then brought the boom down in the fourth. Excellent overall effort on their part. Now if they would please make their damned free throws. Oh, and Parker really is that good. I've been saying so...

Damn Casey but you were on a roll there. that and the ensuing exchange on Tarpley had me rolling in the aisle. And it also answers my question on where Robinson was that last series, I'd really been missing the big fella.

    2003-2004 NBA Season

No kidding Casey. this 7 game 1st round with every last game being televised has got to go. It's pathetic. Of course, there's a selfish aspect in thigns to. The way the Spurs are playing, I want the layoff to end ASAP so they don't lost that finely honed edge. :)

    2003-2004 NBA Season

And just to add a point that's often overlooked in the midst of things is the fact that while the 99 season was only 50 games long instead of 82, things were also highly compressed with teams playing more games in a substantially shorter time span, so in a way it was even more grueling then the...

Well, after dropping homecourt to Milwaukee, I guess Detroit was determined to show it was a fluke and will not happen again. They finish off the Buck in game 5. Looks like Sacramento is gonna beat Dallas as well, same thing. Going back to Sacramento down 3-1 is a short way to a long...

    2003-2004 NBA Season

Well quite frankly George, that logic is absolute bullshit. The Spurs in no way, shape or form benefitted any more from that shortened season then any other team did. Evry team played the 50 game season, it's not like 28 teams played 82 and the Spurs only played 50. The short version is, no...

    2003-2004 NBA Season

Man, if you told me that after 16 games, only one home team would have lost, I think Detroit would have been dead last on my list of who I expected to lose. Oh and Casey, you're right that momentum can change quickly, and it only takes one game to get a streak going, but LA doesn't have much...

    2003-2004 NBA Season

That had to be a truly demoralizing loss for Memphis. For three quarters they gave that game everything they had, falling behind at times but staying in the game and always pulling back, but the Spurs just weathered and came right back, holding off each Memphis run. I agree with you Casey that...

I was rather impressed tonight. Before the Spurs-Grizlies game I asked my little brother what the line was, he told me Spurs in 17, guaranteed, and that I was to quote him on it. Quite impressive. Looks like LA is pulling away from the Rockets midway through the third. They need to take out...

    2003-2004 NBA Season

I miss the five game first round. At first I was fine with a 7 game first, but having seen now two seasons of what it means, it's gotta go. Too many games, takes the suspense out (can you imagine if last years' Spurs-Suns or Wolves-Lakers series had been 5, or this year's Mavs-Kings). It's gonna...

Gabe, I dunno if we'll be able to see others' pics. I hope so, it would be nice to be able to see what everyone else is thinking. Presimably you just can't see them now so you don't know what others did while you can still change yours. Oh, adn Casey, as to your comments on the regular season...

That's all it's meant as Casey, just a bit of fun for the sheer hell of it. And unlike when your team wins the championship and you then have bragging right for the next year, this time the bragging rights for winning this are completely earned for something you did yourself. And who doesn't...

A question and an idea. First, do we want to start a new thread for the playoffs or keep all the fun in this thread? Second, nba.com is sponsoring a Pick'n'Roll contest where you fill out a bracket, complete with number of games per series, all the way through the Finals. Tiebreaker is...

Well, the Kings were nice enough to lsoe to Denver, now if only the Spurs can beat Denver themselves Wednesday and Memphis is kind enough to knock off the T-wolves, I'll be a happy man. It also would set the Spurs up to meet the Lakers in round 2, where I think they'd have the best chance.
