Now that would be ironic, Apple eliminating Mac development to focus solely on iOS, only to stymie [and piss off] the population who they want to write the apps! [/url] And certainly you still need a Mac to write iOS apps.

I think that's a bit alarmist. Apple is clearly touting itself as a mobile electronics company. So maybe the gist of that article is true for, say, the Mac Pro. I think they'll be making and supporting Macbooks and Macbook Pros for quite a while. Coincidentally those are also their best selling...

To follow up on Sam's note about the next version of Premiere being more "prosumer" than "pro", MacRumors references the article from Apple Insider as well but follows it up with an email response from Jobs...

Now Dave, I would never ignore one of your posts! I just wanted to take a moment to explain why I was going this route in case others in a similar plight are wondering why the heck I'm opting for a tower when it does seem like an iMac would suit me just fine. And in truth, if I weren't so...

Ugh, managed to walk out empty handed. The only thing keeping me from buying a new one is the fact that my 3 1/2 year old MBP is still running strong (maxed out the RAM, installed a 500GB 7200RPM HD), and when I look at the benchmarks on Barefeats, while the new MBPs absolutely blow away my MBP...

Yeah Jobs probably shouldn't throw stones, glass houses and all. But I believe what he could have fairly called them lazy for is that up until recently (and I don't know if this is still true of CS5 but it was as of CS3 and 4) is that Adobe didn't use the latest Apple tools and thus most...

Sam, I don't think anyone doubts that revolutionary changes can (and does) happen from those innovators who are not"in the system" and working with limited budgets and tools. After all, with all of the digital wizardry we have access to now, the limit really is one's own imagination and...

Kenneth, I know it is done throughout the business world. I'm saying that Apple itself hasn't shown that they like the strategy of selling off bits of what constitutes their empire. I can't think of one example off the top of my head.

And I think that is what chaps people's hides. When Apple wasn't doing so hot, it was the niche market who kept them afloat. Now that they're riding high on the success of the iPod/iPhone/iPad, that user base who was their lifeline is now, as you say, a negligible portion of their revenue, and...

I kind of define "pro" as what the professionals in the industry use, or in Apple's case, what they pit against that software (Logic Pro vs. Pro Tools, FCS vs. Avid). Now that same software can be used by enthusiasts/prosumers/etc. I certainly am not a pro, but I am trying to learn to use pro...

I hear ya Brian, except that I've made the investment for the Pro Tools Instrument Expansion Pack, and the Strike virtual drummer is pretty insane. It absolutely destroys UltraBeat for what I do (rock music creation, where vocals and guitar are live recordings from me, the rest are virtual...

Yeah I find myself debating between Pro Tools and Logic Pro, but with Apple's focus on the average consumer, I'm starting to see the writing on the wall and going PT.
