Hmm, I actually agree with his assessment of USC's defense in that article. Sure they give up more yards and points than LSU, but they also play in a shoot-em-up conference (witness Cal's 52 vs. VTech). 9 sacks vs. UM was most impressive given that the Wolverines had only allowed 15 all year!
I agree with Jeremiah. Neither USC nor LSU came out as losers - they both earned a share of the national title (just like in years past with split NCs). The real losers are the BCS proponents, who will have to go back to the drawing board again, and of course, us - the fans - who would love...
You know what, I don't think we need a playoff system either. In the past "X" number of years I've been watching college football, the WORST that has happened is a split national championship. Other years, the NC has been unquestioned. So how about this: 1. Keep some form of the Bowls...
I'm with Doug (and remember I'm a UCLA fan who hates USC). If OU had made a game of it, and lost to KSU 28-24 or something like that, I would have no problem with that. But they got PASTED on National TV, when they knew everyone would be watching. KSU did not "sneak up" on them like some...
The biggest joke (and why it will be Bye Bye BCS when contract time expires in 2006) is that USC is ranked #1 in both human polls and has a very realistic chance of *not* being in the Sugar when the final BCS rankings come out.
I still like the Civil War better, but isn't the Army/Navy game the one where the recruits do push-ups every time the team scores? Now that is frickin' cool! :)
Dome - drop me a line when you're ready to see a UCLA game, as I will probably keep my season tix for the foreseeable future. Michigan, Oklahoma and Notre Dame are my other "dream list" games to attend.
Whoops, my bad - a friend who detests Ohio State asked me that question, and that's how I got the #9 rather than 8 home games. Still, 8 is a hell of a lot. UCLA one year played 5 home, 7 away, and usually doesn't have more than 6 home games because our practice is to schedule home and away.
Oh yeah, a question for all my Big 10 friends out there (we don't get your news out here in Pac 10 country). How the hell did Ohio State get 9 home games?
Pretty much "no" on the Miami of Ohio in a BCS Bowl. You have to be in the Top 6 of the BCS poll to be guaranteed, and in the top 12 for consideration. Since there will be other bigger names in the top 12 which will draw better, I would say chances are slim to none. Unless Miami of Ohio wins...
OU passes a lot. Often using 4 or 5 wide sets. And they are talented and deep at the WR spot. Heck, they're talented at every spot. Having seen both extensively, I really don't think that the Buckeyes could stop the OU offense for very long. They may not give up 50 points like everyone else...
Ever since the choking incident (where the Buckeye LB choked the Wisconsin QB) I've never wanted a team, that historically I don't care about, to lose so badly.
As a UCLA fan, I am rooting for $UC to get into the national championship game (I know that means they'll have to beat UCLA at the end of the year but that seems more like an inevitability anyway). Because I do believe that OU is the best team in college football this year. And when $UC gets...
Scott, our DT Rodney Leisle threw a retaliatory punch vs. SDSU (of course he was flagged and ejected) and was suspended by the NCAA for the first half of the next game. Oddly enough, if he had thrown it in a conference game (SDSU is non-PAC10) he would have been suspended for the entire next...
After I saw that, I rooted for Wisconsin (despite them beating my Bruins twice in Rose Bowls in the 90s). There is no place for that in college football. So dirty. Sometimes karma does come back to bite a team in the ass. Totally classless move and #44 should be suspended.
Just wanted to check in and see if Scott was having a coronary with the Gophers leading 21-7. I just got home. Has Gutierrez gotten any snaps for Michigan?
Yup, "Separation Saturday" indeed. What sucks is that we're getting regional PAC-10 action (Oregon vs. Arizona State) rather than the Red River Shootout. Oh well, I still get to watch Miami/FSU, and then my Bruins vs. Arizona and $UC vs. Stanford. I'm interested in Oregon/ASU because...
Don't forget, there's more to it than just height and the classic over-the-top throwing motion. Blocking schemes call for passing lanes to be available and Oregon's QBs clearly weren't using those properly (or the WSU defense was refusing to be blocked where the OL was trying to get them)...
