I have finished season six and taking a break from the show. What a treat to see John DeLancie and Dee Wallace guest starring in the penultimate episode of the season. Ten years later DeLancie would become Q on TNG and only 5 years later Wallace would play the mom in a life-changing movie that...
A RANSOM IN JEWELS, with the two former Vietnam buddies turned private eyes, was a lot of fun. Unlike The Starshine Sisters, an encore from these two fun P.I.s would be welcome!
Working my way through season 6. A delight to see Vera Miles give such a nice performance in "The Reincarnation." Many guest stars I first saw in The Fugitive. A treat to see them again here roughly ten years later in chronological screen time.
Started season 6 last night and what a delight to see Robert Reed and Anne Lockhart guest starring. Lockhart took me back to my GALACTICA days, and of course I always marvel at Reed being able to play such a wholesome father in THE BRADY BUNCH and yet also being able to pull off convincing...
Randall, thanks for your post. I have the DVD with the commentary by Hyams and the BD...I only wish the DVD commentary was on the BD. Believe me, I have considered ripping them and combining them onto one BD.
There's no question that watching TV with my dad shaped my viewing habits to this very...
I just picked back up watching this series after a break. I'm on season five and slowly warming up to J.R.
I just watched THE COPY-CAT KILLING with David Huddleston. One of the reasons I like the show is that my father and I used to watch it together. And often, when I see the guest stars, I...
I understand. Buy it used and VEI doesn't get a buck of your money. But I got so much damn enjoyment out of it, even as it is, that I hate to think you of all people don't have it.
I never felt they tried to pass the Barnaby Jones set off as either remastered or complete. I knew what I was getting, felt I paid a fair price for it, and have been enjoying the hell out of it.
So far there have only been two episodes that were edited to the point of distraction; a few times...
Anyone who knows me, knows when I pick my battle, I usually win it. But life is too short to pick a battle with everything, especially Barnaby. I wasn't going to win this battle, and in the end, I'd only be shortchanging myself.
I paid about $13 per season. I can live with that.
Yes. I bought BARNABY a while back because I had the time to watch four seasons back to back to back to back. I paid a little more but enjoyed myself capitally.
I couldn't agree more. Sure, I could have waited a few months and gotten it cheaper, but then I would have missed out on all the great times I've had watching the first four seasons--when I had the time to do it.
I much preferred the episodes where I know who the killer is, and it's him vs. Barnaby, one-on-one, with a little help from Betty.
I am going to commit a cardinal sin and jump from season 4 disc 1 episode 2 to season 4 disc 3 episode 1. I really do appreciate your posting here with your...
I really appreciate your post. I zipped through seasons 1-4 but lost steam after the beginning of season 5 because I felt as if the thing I liked most about the show had been destroyed by this new character. I will keep going and give it a chance. Thanks again.
I've started season five. I forgot about Jedidiah coming into the series so soon. I always thought it was season six or seven. I seem to remember these episodes lost a little something, but I could be wrong about that. I guess they had to take some of the load of Buddy. He was getting on up...
I'm halfway through the series, more than100 episodes, and I can only remember two that I thought were clinkers. Looking forward to the second half of this set.
I love how Barnaby always has little evidence bags in his coat pocket, ready for that stray hair or fiber. I'm particularly amused at how he blows into the bags to open them before inserting his find. Today he'd be seen as committing a cardinal sin: contaminating evidence with his own DNA :-)
I just made another purchase from VEI, the McMillan & Wife boxed set. It was on sale for $39 and couldn't pass it up. You know, seeing the actual boxed sets that Barnaby and now McMillan came in, they are sturdy, simple and functional. They fit well on shelves, hardly take up more space than the...
After life rudely interrupted my BARNABY JONES viewing, I am back to it.
Although the dramatic quality of the episodes is nicely even, the disparity in picture quality is often staggering. A fourth season episode entitled BEWARE THE DOG, for example, looked as sharp as anything I've seen on...
Just because I bought the set and am enjoying the hell out of it doesn't mean I don't have complaints or lack a critical standard. I simply have better uses for my energy than to spend a lot of time either 1) getting upset and depriving myself of the enjoyment of the show; or 2) spending a lot...
I've been slammed by work lately but it's a testament to the Barnaby Jones set that I am counting the days till I can get back to watching two episodes per night. Most multiple-season sets wouldn't survive a work interruption like this; my mentality for it would be blown and I'd be on to some...
