The real punishment for Will Smith will be his next movie role or lack thereof. I don't want to sound pessimistic, but I think the cloud over his head will follow him for a long time. It will be an uphill battle trying to secure a great movie role again I think.
I know he doesn't need the...

Makes sense. As far as Will Smith owning up to the unfortunate actions he chose that night. Good for him. No one is perfect ---to err is human, to forgive divine.
I've seen good friends slap each other goofing around mainly when I was a teenager. I've never seen an adult open hand slap another full force in front of millions of people directed from pure anger.
At any rate you believe what you like and I will do the same. Good day sir.
I don't even care about it other than people trying to say its OK...which it absolutely was not. It was awkward, ugly, and stupid. Also hypocrisy about violence in movies as opposed to real life. Come on man. Do better than that.
The Academy Awards tweeted out that "They don't condone violence". Violence as to what Will Smith did.
'not acceptable' is the same thing as inexcusable. They are not OK with what Will Smith has done. They will forgive him over time
We don't know how Chris Rock feels...he hasn't spoken...
There is no excuse for what Will Smith did. None. By excusing his behavior you are saying that is normal, and it could happen again, and again at awards ceremonies(as long as actors involved?) That is a weird take.
I've seen 3rd graders with bad tempers handle situations better. Chris...
Doesn't matter. The actions of Will Smith were inexcusable in front of millions of viewers. Will Smith's son tweeted "and that's how we do it" like it was cool or something. Yikes.
Yes, seriously --
Did I say anything about long term effects? No. I specifically said suffer through the ordeal. The events of the evening which many did.

Waiting to see if we get a statement from Will Smith. A heartfelt apology to the Academy Awards, and the viewers that had to suffer through such an ugly spectacle.
Along with the idea that violence is the lowest form of actions to defend the honor of his wife.
The other thing to basically confirm the authenticity is the "bad blood" between the two way before this incident. A black eye for a night at the Oscars resulting in silence, and the sweeping under the rug mentality of everyone involved.
Especially since it was such an ugly incident. The Academy Awards issued a "doesn't condone violence" disclaimer, which is about the same as nothing...who cares? And the parties involved are perfectly fine..like it never happened. You'd think this violent act was the same as a botched musical...
Will Smith and Chris Rock have already made up after Oscars fight, claims Diddy: ‘That’s over’
"That’s over," Sean Combs said at the Vanity Fair after-party. "I can confirm that."

Ok so my stance is this like I said earlier: If they don't care I don't care. The Oscars want to treat it like a line flub, or a wardrobe malfunction so be it.
But wouldn't that defeat the entire purpose of the fake in the first place? I'm with you, I don't feel it was staged, but in the off chance it was, we will never know.
I'm sorry, but I don't think that will come close to happening. There is not punishment for Will Smith, and supposedly he and Chris Rock made up after the show, and are like "brothers" again.
Will Smith also enjoyed the after party like nothing phased him...
Damn, that was hard slap.
I don't watch the Oscars anymore, and I had zero interest in watching this but I Imagine for those that care about the awards ceremony this action would have been a huge damper on the show throughout the remainder of it. Sad. Was this the ugliest moment in the...
