Depending on your state's emissions laws, I would have said to just bypass the egr valve. Doesn't matter if it's broken if it's bypassed. :)

I would have thought the shop would have called you and asked if you wanted the mass air sensor replaced, etc, instead of just checking the code and having it come back on. Used to be, the CE light would come on mainly only for an emissions problem, so it didn't matter a whole lot. Now it can...
