Boo Hoo! My Sony MDS-JA555ES minidisc deck goes in for repair tomorrow. :o(

Keith, is this thread dead? What happened? I want to know what happened with your situation. Did you get answers from Sony? Will they replace the deck or rebuy it? Say anything.

Mike, if pro deck is what you are looking for, then look at Tascam and HHB, and nothing else. Don't even consider Sony's pro line. Denon once made awesome pro decks, but they were aimed at professional DJs, heavy, rugged, great sound and fully mechanical (remember those 1978 betamax? :)), I had...

Boo Hoo! My Sony MDS-JA555ES minidisc deck goes in for repair tomorrow. :o(

Mike B. The JE520 was a complete redesign to quietly replace the flop Sony pulled with the JE510. You notice it once you insert a disc, with the 510 you basicly had you push it down it's throat, with the 520 it was pulled from your fingers smoothly. So the sensor/switch issue the created the...

Thomas, Philip While it its true that those two tips to the turn-on bug for JE5x0 based MD decks are a workaround for the glitch, unfortunately, it is not a permanent solution (not the JE520-530, they are based on a redesigned mechanism). Although I mentioned that I got rid of my JE510 as fast...

Keith Since I had been screwed in the past by Sony's lame service support and terrible experiences like yours, I truly feel your pain. In fact, when the infamous JE510 developed the "turn on bug", and consequently ended at the authorized service center, little did I know what was ahead of me...

Keith Besides my initial "inconvenience" with my JB940 deck, I can really recommend it. I thought that it would be another lemmon like the infamous JE510 when it failed after three weeks, but after the unit got replaced everything has been all right (knocks wood). It may not be the ultimate...

Boo Hoo! My Sony MDS-JA555ES minidisc deck goes in for repair tomorrow. :o(

Keith, and in case anyone asks, my deck was defective. It stoped recording after the fifth disk (that was three weeks after I bought it). So it was not because of a defective design. The 940 is very solid and very well constructed. Can't tell the difference with an actual ES model beside weight...

Keith, I know exactly how you feel: Philip, sorry to hear (again) about your 920. I too feel the same way. My Sony anger has cooled down a bit since the last time we exchanged mails (like two months ago) when my brand new pseudo ES MD deck -MDS-JB940- went south. Fortunatly for me the unit was...
