Valmont? Wicked. My favourite version of this oft-told tale.

I wonder if the French will try banning 'Paths of Glory' again. It was banned for years on its first release.

Bwana Devil was the very first movie I ever saw in 3-D. I remember it being sensational, but only for the novelty of 3-D. The film itself? Garbage.

Never seen A Dandy in Aspic. What a cast! I watched The Dresser the other night, with Albert Finney and Tom Courtenay; surely that will also appear on Blu ray one day....

I think it's legit to ask this question ..,., I'd love to know if a decision has been made yet re the recently announced Truffaut bundle. Single release or set?

I hope for single disc releases ... but why not both, giving a discount for those who opt for a complete set?

But is it a set or single discs? I have some UK editions already but can't wait for Wild Change and Small Change ... that open-window scene is a killer! Fortunately not literally.....

Martin Teller asked what's as good as Casablanca. I'm sure he'll agree with my answer. Nothing is.

Susan Hampshire (looking so lovely on the chaise-longue in 'The Barchester Chronicles') told me once that she could never comment on her roles as she NEVER watched anything she had appeared in. I've heard similiar from some other people. v

I know what you mean, Lark ... there are times I want to shout 'enough, enough!' But the overall brilliance can't be in dispute and it's a great testimony to a genius of our time. So often derided, yet a trip to the Picasso Museum in Paris, Barcelona or Antibes (the ones I've been to) would...

I have the Region B version of 'The Mystery of Picasso' and thoroughly recommend Region A adherents to take a look at this miniature masterpiece. Clouzot, sometimes dubbed the French Master of Suspense, is probably best known for his movies Les Diaboliques and The Wages of Fear, and my...

Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid starring Steve Martin, Ingrid Bergman and Rachel Ward. What a cast. What a great little movie. I mentioned once to Rachel Ward's husband what a knockout she is in this movie. 'Just be careful', he warned me. Fortunately, he was only kidding and we went on to knock back...

Yeah FP1 in the English version with Conrad Veidt. One of my most treasured records is a 78 rpm pre-war disc (I have two copies actually ... one for 'safety') of Conrad singing the classic 'Where the Lighthouse Shines Across the Bay' from the movie, with the pastiche-Wagnerian 'Airman...

Any noir with Ray Milland is a winner ... though I still find his comic turn in 'The Major and The Minor' my favourite of his film roles. What an unexpected performance!

Benny Hill and Dave Allen. So different! Both so brilliant. Benny of course fell foul of the 'politically correct' brigade, more's the pity. Mild vulgarity was always an important part of British humour.l

I think Avakian and Stern worked as one on editing Jazz on a Summer's Day. Stern knew nothing at all about jazz, and totally relied on Avakian's input ... which is why although the great Louis Armstrong is featured in the film, Stern didn't bother filming the ground-breaking Miles Davis. Missed...

I have been waiting for SO LONG for Jazz on a Summer's Day. I have the New Yorker DVD which is very fine indeed, but the Blu ray should be simply spectacular. As well as the brilliant jazz, other highlights include a very early set by Chuck Berry, accompanied by jazz musos including a very...

I know the Insider can't answer requests, but it would be great to see the best version put to film of 'The Great Gatsby' -- I've never seen it, but am told that the 1949 version with Alan Ladd is the best cinema adaptation yet.
