Yup, drab is about the right word to describe the Blu-ray. I do feel sorry for Richard Burton; he's hardly in the first half, & relegated to Cleopatra's puppy dog in the second half. I think that he must have suffered most from the cuts, I bet all his good scenes were cut out.
I enjoyed Cleopatra at the cinema all those years ago, but now it's: first half good, second half dull (& the same with Gone With The Wind). I'm one of those that are unhappy with the look of the Blu-ray - far too cool, I'm sure that it looked very lush at the cinema, & believe me, I don't buy a...
Sorry to move away from 20th Century Fox for a post, but just to say that Universal are releasing an all regions Blu-ray of The Story Of Doctor Wassill on March 26th next year, of course I don't know how it will look.
Por el Valle de las Sombras (BD) [Blu-ray]: Amazon.es: Gary Cooper, Laraine...
There's a double Blu-ray pack of Flints: Our Man Flint (1966) & In Like Flint (1967) on Amazon France for 20 euro. It's from BQHL Éditions, they state region B, but I read somewhere that most BQHL Blu-ray are in fact all regions, but I dunno.
Yup, those two are at the top of my CinemaScope wants list. I'm not sure that they need any major restoration, I think the only hold-up is the massive amount of films that Warner have awaiting release. In fact nearly all the CinemaScope films I want are controlled by Warner (I do love a list)...
Sorry to derail the thread with talk of Cleopatra. I had hoped that TT would release Seven Cities Of Gold (1955) & The Story Of Ruth (1960), not that I'm at all religious (quite the opposite), but I did enjoy it when I saw it aged 11 & I am a sucker for any ancient world film.
Yeah, that's what I read somewhere, & the best transfer is the one that TT released. I'm so happy that I bit the bullet & bought it, & I'd say it's the best looking Fox CinemaScope Blu-ray that I own (if only Cleopatra looked as good). It looks like it was done before Fox started their "house...
Yup, The Comancheros & The Egyptian & The Rains Of Ranchipur & a few others were done before Fox started to do whatever they do now to get the Fox "look".
Oo, controversial or what :)
It's odd that The Lost World (1960) Blu-ray seems to have been released in many European countries, but not America. It's not a great movie ( & that's putting it lightly), but I have a soft spot for it (I bought the French release before it was released in the UK).
Oh right. But anyone looking for a film that's sold out should check the various Amazons around the world before paying loads of money with ebay, many of them are region free (you can usually find out). Fox are releasing a lot of catalogue Blu-rays in Germany.
You can still buy the French Blu-ray of The Blue Max (Le Crépuscule des aigles), it's multi region & the same transfer as the TT release, & not expensive (it's the one I have)
…& Fox are releasing Journey To The Centre Of The Earth (multi-region) in Germany at the end of May, & only 11 euros...
