I didn't plan on seeing it, but ended up seeing it tonight at the single-screen downtown theater in Chatham, NY.
An entirely soulless exercise. Everybody (with the exception of maybe Will Smith) felt like they were just cashing a paycheck. The beats were there, but they all felt obligatory...
It's the best trailer yet, but the world still doesn't feel lived in. It always feels like sets with CG extensions to me.
It sounds like Naomi Scott has the singing chops for Jasmine, but I'm not a huge fan of Mena Massoud's singing voice from the few bits we got in that trailer.

I actually enjoyed the live action Beauty and the Beast quite a bit. I just meant that Disney's motivation for making these isn't artistic and meaningful; its motivation is soulless and corporate. They are products coming off of the assembly line, on a schedule that creates value for...

It's the CG airbrushing they did on that cover. Massoud is 27, only two years older than his co-star Naomi Scott.
Those photos definitely look better than the teaser trailer did, but it still does look as expensive as it cost. That's actually a problem I've had with Ritchie's work in general...

This seems like much ado about nothing. The overwhelming majority of extras and background players were of Middle Eastern and South Asian descent. The only time they employed "brownface" was when nobody of that background with the required specialized skills could be hired within the constraints...
This one's probably going to be a bit more controversial than the other Disney live action remakes, both because of the setting and because it's the first one where the majority of the human characters aren't white people of western European descent.
There's already been controversy over some...
