In the interview with Carrey posted in the review thread, he mentions that Alastair Sim's take was his favorite version, so that might explain the similarity. Also, doesn't the jaw business come from the original story?

I had absolutely zero interest in this, but the idea that it's the most faithful adaptation of the original story now has me intrigued.
