Despite the best efforts of the schmucks in the Beantown media. Good for him!
They just mentioned that Pedroia's wife is in the hospital because she went into labor yesterday, 7 weeks early. The doctors are working to delay the birth and she told him to go play tonight.
Speaking of on-field...
That was awesome!!! Plus my former neighbor, a die-hard Stankee fan, was at his old place cleaning the driveway this morning, so I got to tell him about it. On the other hand, I have been having serious nightmares about Jason Bay in pinstripes next year. :frowning:
Yesterday they were talking on WEEI about the Red Sox planning to trade Takashi Saito for Hank Blalock, which got nixed when one of Blalock's current teammates got injured. Every year, it seems that one team's bullpen really clicks. That team always goes deep into the postseason. WHY WOULD...
I remember Holyoke Millers games 25-30 years ago. AA squad for the Brewers. There are a couple of minor-league teams around here (and, of course, spring training). I should take Junior one of these days.
The Stanks are tearing the cover off the ball, but the Sox have superior pitching. They say that good pitching beats good hitting -- let's hope so!!! You know times have changed when the Stanks and Sox are battling for the division lead and only 1 out of 3 games is scheduled for national TV.
"East Coast Bias" is the (valid) complaint that the national sports media tends to focus much more on East Coast teams (with a few exceptions, like the Lakers). And by "valid complaint" I mean that the bias exists; on the other hand, the bias is understandable because people on the East Coast...
I went to Stankee Yadium a million times in the late '90s and early '00s (sitting in many different places, including a luxury box), and it was great. Luxury Boxes are the reason it was torn down, pure and simple. Much as it pains me to say it, for the most part the abuse we took there was in...
Just before Conan O'Brien stopped doing his late-night show, he showed a lot of "best-of" material. IIRC, his on-location bit about an old-time baseball league was voted his #1 sketch of all time (better than Triumph at the Phantom Menace premiere!). You can watch it here.
They mentioned on ESPN this morning that Swisher was the best pitcher the Stanks had last night. (Maybe the Red Sox should've been trying to sign him instead of Texiera!)
Indeed. A rough week for baseball. On The Sports Reporters yesterday, Mitch Albom suggested that a first offense for DUI should result in automatic jail time. Can't say as I disagree.
