Jim, here is an example from my AMX code:
SEND_STRING ROTEL1066,"$FE,$03,$C2,$10,$68,$3D" (* DD EX ON/OFF *)
Just add everything up except the start code "FE". Above I added 03, C2, 10, 68 which = 13D but you can drop the 1 as the 1066 does not need it and you get 3D as the checksum.
I use RS232 control for my 1066.
Download the PC-Interface-02-02.pdf file from Rotel and look under 1066 for a list of PC to 1066 commands.
Looks like this:

I did a front projection install last week for the company I work for and sure enough the user went with a Rotel 1066 for the processor and the one thing I noticed that I have not tested on my Rotel is that it appears the digital inputs 2 and 3 are labeled backwards? Has anyone else noticed...
Yep.... I must admit... having spent sometime now with the 1066 I like it more and more every day. Went from using a Newcastle 945 as a Pre/Pro to an Outlaw 950 then the Rotel 1066 and I must say, the 1066 is one nice piece that I am glad I have in my Digital Vortex Home Theater! Whether I be...
Yep, just hitting play and it plays it as one long track even though there are many MP3 files so you are correct I am not sure what it is sending out the digital output but what ever it is sending the Rotel is not even seeing it as there is no random noise. I also have my HTPC hooked up to the...
Well I believe that any CD player that has a digital output should pass the undecoded MP3 digital signal. I encoded raw MP3 data onto a CDR and it seems to play fine on my Pioneer 300 disc changer put I get no sound or signal detection from the Rotel.
Thanks for posting the update Andrew, and the 1066 picture looks nice on you website! ;)
For those with the slow 20 minute upgrades, I just nuked and paved my HTPC and down graded to Win98SE as I was ssick of all the problems with XP I was having and I just did the 1.43 and it only took about 3...
I am with Andrew on this.... I never... repeat never have unhooked anything from my 1066 when doing the updates. However... when I had the 950 I may have unplugged the connections a few times for comparisons but never noticed any lose feeling connectors and in fact the Rotel unit seems to be...
Yea... I will have to try my Laptop with 98SE and see what I get. I have a HTPC which is in the rack next to the 1066 so that is easier for me to use...
I have done 4 upgrades and all 4 have taken about 20 minutes. I am running Windows XP and have the HyperTerminal setup as Rotel recommends. I did have to change the port speed settings under the hardware manager as they were set to 9600 by default but that did not seem to help any but I still...
Well with all the pictures of the "silver 1066" I thought I would take a few of my black 1066 so we are not left out! ;)

Pictures of my BLACK Rotel 1066!
Nice clean website Andrew and the HT system looks very nice! What are the spacers you have between the amps?
A note on some testing I did of the 1066 this evening:
It seems that all grounds, video, audio and even the RS232 ground are tied together.
The reason I mention this is that when I...
Just press the Dolby button and it should kick in. Press it again and it should kick out and then be automatic from there on out... at least that is what I had to do... YMMV...
I have not noticed any dropouts with my 1066? Perhaps it only happens with certain players? I am using a HTPC with a Hercules XP sound card and I also use a Pioneer 300 CD changer with some DTS CD's loaded in it and thus far not a one dropout.
As far as buyer’s remorse, I have none...
I see Rotel stopped giving away the cables for free:
Thank you for your e-mail. The cost for the RJ45 cable is $5.00 plus $7.50 shipping. Please forward VISA or M/C number and I will ship today.
Thank you

Like I stated above:
“It does seem to lock onto the bit stream better now. Like if I go from a DTS CD to a Redbook CD it locks on correctly every time and seems to lock on faster.”
This seems to have happened since updating from 1.37 to 1.4.
Anyone else notice this?
After installing 1.40 I hooked up a speaker to the 2nd center channel output and now a "height" speaker lights up on the front panel and I get "height" sound effects!!! It is very cool!!!!!!!.

Ok, I notice nothing much different from 1.37 to 1.4.... ;)
It does...
I burned a CD with MP3's (in there raw format) and played it in my CD changer (using the digital output) but I get no sound out of the 1066?
Hopefully you will be able to get more information on the MP3 feature Andrew as I sure would like to try this feature out.
