Just finished comparing the Ref50 and the Rotel 1066. For multi-channel listening they are very close. For two channel listening I give the edge to the Ref50 but I think the Ref50 would do much better for two channel playback with better speakers up front as I am currently using JBL S36's up...

OK, here is the info on the "WHINE" sound. I used an IVIE IE-30A audio analyzer with an IE2P microphone. Now the peak noise seems to be around the 1.6k-2k (+-) range but does cover a full range of around 400Hz to 12.5KHz (+-). The DB level seems to be about 11 higher then normal room...

And again here I agree with Ray. If you turn on your system and the noise floor in the room raises then you have a problem. If you turn your system on and the noise floor stays the same and you have to "put your ear on the speaker" to hear any noise, then I doubt you have a problem...

I agree your problem does not sound right. I am leaning towards perhaps QC, and that some units went out the door with some "WHINE" problems of different severity. But that is just a guess on my part. My noise floor with my Rotel was very, very, low… much lower then when I compared it too...

I should be getting my Ref50 next week and will be sure to check for this "whine" and will of course check the version of the software. I will be using the balanced connections hooked up to QSC EX Pro amps and JBL Studio monitor speakers.
