New Line owns production rights on The Hobbit and through a trail of red tape and old business deals the distribution rights continue to be held by... MGM / UA !!

Found another cool article from an Aussie publication: http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2003/...122263213.html Here's a nice bit: I'd give up birthday presents for five straight years to get a Jackson-helmed Hobbit. :)

I don't know why you're apologizing; your post was pretty damn fascinating. I do remember the song from The Hobbit, but remind me where the golf reference is?

Applause to Warner, and I have my own side-track to offer: The Annotated Hobbit (I had a cover scan up, but it doesn't work now. Check the link below.) Just received this from Amazon, and it's easily one of the coolest books I've ever purchased. You wouldn't believe how much stuff is...

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)

I got all sorts of tidbits: EA has their Return of the King video game set for a late 2003 release, but next summer there's a plan for a huge game based on the whole movie trilogy. (The ROTK game promises control of five characters (a la TTT), but no specs yet for this 2004 game.) Then I...

Ooh, good call on Gilliam. The poor guy is cursed, though. I don't see a studio giving him $300 million+ bucks to make three movies. But he's absolutely a filmmaker who'd treat such admired source material with respect. (Plus to do it his way, he'd need about $600 million.) But the...

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)

We're all posting in this thread because we're fans of The Lord of the Rings. The books are like the world's best steak. Perhaps the movies are the world's best cheeseburgers. Sure, both items are closely related - but they're prepared, served, enjoyed, and digested in completely different ways...

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)

All good points about the Gimli/comic relief topic, but as far as taking the character seriously as a noble warrior: I cheer every time that ass-kicking dwarf lands on that bridge and starts killing orcs three at a time. It's not belches or pratfalls I'm remembering; it's "Damn, this...

Haha! No way! It's really his 111th birthday today? That's perfect! Happy Birthday, Prof. Tolkien, wherever you are! Thank you for the wonderful stories!

Claire, Good call on MaryAnn's review. I've been a big fan of hers for a few years now. :emoji_thumbsup:

No, I absolutely don't think it was a tear of joy. To me it looked like a tear of 'absolute horror at the realization of the evil he's in league with'. Grima is a human being, after all. I could be wrong, but that's my interpretation.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)

Couldn't agree more, David. Plus his voice work in the EA game is great too. :D "Legolas! We need your bow!" I've noticed that the Xbox game has quite a few 'extra features', several of which are just like DVD goodies! Interview segments, production photos and artwork, etc. I realize this...

Brian, Where was did you read about the Daniel Day-Lewis info? I don't doubt that it's true, but I'd love to read THAT story if it's out there anywhere. I think he would have been a great choice, though I'm thrilled that a guy like Viggo has made a big name for himself. Like many of you, I've...

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)

Friendly reminder: The Xbox version of The Two Towers hit stores today. I ran out and got one and am currently having a great time slashing my way through Balin's Tomb. Fun stuff if you're an Xbox person - and about 1,500 times more fun than the first Xbox LOTR game. Back to the movie talk! :)

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)

Stuart Townsend was cast as Aragorn. I remember reading that his work was no good. These days, Jackson diplomatically says the original actor was "too young" to play the character, which is also true (IMO). For an example of what Aragorn could have been, go rent Queen of the Damned. Then be...

Kevin Ransom is a very entertaining movie critic from www.moviecrypt.com , and he recently shared this original poem with me. If you enjoy it, stop by his site and let him know. :) 'Twas the Knights before Christmas, and up on the screen "The Two Towers" played (not "Return of the King")...

Don't feel bad, Dan. Nobody read my box-office update either. :D (I like the Smeagol pic. Thanks for posting it.) Also, I need a YES/NO answer to the following question: Does Grima factor into ROTK in any way?

Again, great choice. A and G in the front with the ladder in the background struck me as quite cool. Like most of you, I was dazzled by Legolas rather stylish approach at climbing a horse. :)

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)

I'm going out on a limb here, but I predict this movie will make a lot of money. And it might even get a few Oscar noms. On both counts, you heard it here first. Fearless prognosticator,

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)

HAhA! Ryan stole my thunder by about 40 seconds! What are the odds? I enjoyed Ebert's review, but he does seem to contradict himself rather clearly. So...if he's not read the books...how would he know what's 'true to Tolkien'? Also he half-dismisses TTT as a modern action flick. I...

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)

Ditto. Don't know why exactly, but this little moment really stuck with me. Saw the midnight showing tonight, and the flick doesn't lose a thing on a second viewing! Also, Andy Sirkis made a good point re: the nomination issues. He cites John Hurt, who deservedly earned a nom for his...

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)

When they started bickering over Merry and Pippin (in the movie) I felt that satisfying pang of "Ahh, I remember this well from the book!" I love that! As far as Treebead goes, I think he's frickin' great! Only drawback is that he should have been onscreen more...and maybe they could have...

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)

Something I've been wondering: I've been reading all sorts of interviews and articles about Jackson & Co. He, Walsh, Boyens are doing a lot of press, but I've yet to see one mention of Stephen Sinclair or his contributions to The Two Towers. I know he's a longtime collaborator of Jackson's...

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)

Ah, gee....Urmmm... I love being singled out as an idiot. Here I was under the impression that the trailer music AND Shore's quote DID have something to do with The Two Towers. Perhaps it's that we have so many threads dedicated to the same topics. I read an interesting nugget and immediately...

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)

Thanks for the scoop on both topics, Dan. This may not be an 'official' piece of LOTR music, but I'll be burning it onto a CD sometime real soon. It's the most hypnotic piece of music since the end credits theme from Moulin Rouge. I could listen to it every day, and I find music like this helps...
