It’s been so long since I’ve seen the theatrical cut that I hardly remember the differences, aside from the song that is missing in all of the future cuts. I’d love to see that one again, as that’s the one I loved in the theaters back in the day.
I love this movie. Not only is it really funny but is one of your few opportunities to see footage from the 1932 LA olympics. Thanks for the heads-up. We’ll be DVRing it.
I watched through the 80's. No Never Cry Wolf in the video. No The Gods Must be Crazy either, which was on the Netherlands list. Plenty of other stuff, though.
Philadelphia Story and The Maltese Falcon always seemed to be the second feature at the revival houses I’d frequent back in the ‘80’s. I saw each of them dozens of times and really grew to appreciate them, after having a lukewarm reaction to each on first viewing.
I love this movie. I went through a number of public domain DVDs before finding a watchable one. I understand that a restored version will be shown at the TCM film festival in Hollywood next spring. I hope it comes to Blu-ray afterwards.
To your spoiler, I had heard that they were planning a sequel that never got made. That character’s fate was to be resolved there. When the sequel never got made, you get the result you commented on.
I am waiting for Scaramouche on blu for my Eleanor Parker fix. She is great in that one.
I had the same Sound of Music dissonance the first time I saw Scaramouche. Maria wouldn’t have had a chance if The baroness had brought a little of her Scaramouche character’s qualities to the role.
Scott, if you have a backlog of Disney discs, the Disney Movie Club could be your friend. It is the most effective way to get discount pricing on Disney product. 4K discs are slowly infiltrating the club and both Star Wars and Marvel can be had at good prices.
