Le Samourai is one of my favorites from Jean-Pierre Melville and wished he made more films but died at an early age of 55 in 1973. Will watch the TCM broadcast this weekend.
Just a FYI to anyone who can get the FETV cable channel that this Sunday they will be broadcasting The Alamo as part of their weekly John Wayne film marathon.
Have the Criterion releases Le Trou and Touchez Pas Au Grisbi directed by Jacques Becker which are very good so will look forward to seeing this for the first time too.
I did that many years ago of having most of my dvd's and some Blu-rays that i don't watch that often in binders. Did save a lot of shelf space for new discs.
When TCM broadcasted Jack L Warner: The Last Mogul recently i watched it and noticed it was different compared to my dvd copy. I was right when i pulled out my dvd and compared it to the broadcast version and there are some differences. Here is a link to a recent interview with the film's...
I watched the documentary The Brothers Warner over the weekend on TCM and it's a good one but something kinda odd. When they show the recent interviews when the documentary was made it fills my tv screen with i guess a 1.77 aspect ratio but when they shown clips of wide screen Warner Bros...
Thanks to my local library system i checked out the book I Love the Illusion: The Life and Career of Agnes Moorhead by Charles Tranberg a few years ago and it was a good read and highly recommended.
I came close to buying that 2008 release but for some reason i passed on it. Tomorrow night TCM will broadcast The Brothers Warner and i might watch that.
I did record the 114m TCM broadcast version on to my dvd recorder and have the disc on my shelf. Will look for the Blu-ray release and glad i have a all region Blu-ray player. Thanks Joseph for the info.
A few days ago TCM broadcasted The Burglars (1971) with Jean-Paul Belmondo and Omar Sharif and liked it even if the ending was kinda weak. There are some disc releases out there but nothing recently so i hope maybe Kino could release it.
I finally got around to viewing the TCM broadcast of Max Steiner: Maestro of the Movies and it was very entertaining and well done. After i viewed it i pulled out my copy of Music For the Movies: Bernard Herrmann (1992) and Max Steiner is mentioned in it a few times.
Last night i watched for the first time The Mask of Dimitrios that was recently shown on TCM. Great film and fine performances by Peter Lorre and Sydney Greenstreet. I thought Zachary Scott was excellent in his first film playing the criminal mastermind Dimitrios Makropoulos.
Just finished watching the documentary Carl Laemmle (2019) that was shown on TCM recently and thought it was very informative and well made. It focused on how he fought the Patents Trust successfully and founded Universal Studios. And battling the Third Reich and saving over 300 Jewish families...
I try not to record on my DirecTV receiver between the hours of 1 a.m. & 3a.m. because Directv will sometimes send updates to my receiver and if there is a recording in progress it will delete it.
I also watched Cartoon Carnival and Fleischer Studios and did enjoy many of the cartoons including Popeye and Betty Boop. I also enjoyed The Melies Mystery which talked about the film career of Georges Melies and what happened to his film prints and the current restoration work. Have the Francis...
I watched Once A Thief and it was ok. I noticed that one of the actors sounded like Paul Frees so i looked up the movie on IMDB and i was right that he did the voiceover for him.
