Why optical disc won't die anytime soon

hi foxy, with 4k just beginning, it would seem that it will last 10-20 years, anyways. and if it will fit on a blu-ray disk with the new codec, it would seem that 4k will always have an optical disc platform for people to purchase. i dont see us not being able to own our video products in my...

Why optical disc won't die anytime soon

thanks foxy, so 4-6 is the maximum. and one can make things worse by going beyond a certain amount, so higher is not always better.

Why optical disc won't die anytime soon

i found this to be an informative article about 4k http://www.techradar.com/us/news/home-cinema/high-definition/ultra-hd-everything-you-need-to-know-about-4k-tv-1048954 since i am mostly into older stuff (movies or tv), i have a couple of questions 1) is there a physical limitation as to how...

Why optical disc won't die anytime soon

    > It's just that in no other sphere of modern technology have I ever seen it play out that way. The express (unstated) purpose of content Vendors (especially web-based) is to present you with an initially attractive 'opt-in environment', and then convert it into a 'walled garden'. Once they have...

Why optical disc won't die anytime soon

hi persian, you make many good points. but at least for me, i do not differentiate between an optical disc and a hard drive, as one being physical while the other is digital ? they are both physical objects that i might own. each one stores digital data, that is read by a physical medium...

Why optical disc won't die anytime soon

hi patrick, persian brought this up before. and i dont mind the idea. i dont care what physical medium i own. but the main problem with that, at least as was mentioned by someone else, is the length of time it would take to download it. someone else also mentioned buying it on a flash drive...

Why optical disc won't die anytime soon

well of course you lived without it - you didnt have a choice. i also have albums. but i dont have much interest in that quality of music. again, when it was the only thing in town, it was great. but with the clarity of cd, i am not motivated to listen to all the cracks, pops, needle noise...

Why optical disc won't die anytime soon

the people under 30 will learn something that may change their minds, just like the people over 30 already have learned. and that is that things go oop. what happens when one's choice is no longer available on the stream ? when i was a kid, it never dawned on me that there would be music that...

Why optical disc won't die anytime soon

while nothing is perfect, i was under the assumption that most discs would outlast a person, if not mis-treated ?

Why optical disc won't die anytime soon

that would be out of the question, for me. if that was my only option, i simply would stop purchasing.

Why optical disc won't die anytime soon

hi persian, i would be willing to do that, at least in concept. having a bunch of movies on 1 terrabyte drive might decrease space. although i would have to have a second drive for backup. but at least i would own my own copy at my own house that someone cant delete. i do have dsl. but i...

Why optical disc won't die anytime soon

i will never download or stream, either. so the studio wont get any of my business if they have a movie that is not for sale. but i dont care that much about what they do with new stuff, either. i wont live long enough to enjoy all the stuff that is available.

Why optical disc won't die anytime soon

yea, tv programs would be good. since that is multiple discs per purchase. perhaps combinations from studios - like the 50 disc warner brothers that i just bought ?

Why optical disc won't die anytime soon

maybe i am missing something ? but what benefit does a terrabyte of storage give us for an optical disc ? i can see that an individual movie could have an increased resolution, and still be contained on 1 disc.

Why optical disc won't die anytime soon

i think storage, is by far, the biggest drawback to our current system. i wish the movies were currently sold in just tyvek sleeves. that would cut our storage to 10% of what we have today. yes, i know i can get rid of the plastic cases. but that also pretty much eliminates most avenues of...

Why optical disc won't die anytime soon
