By the way, the Qatsi movies (at least the first two) are also part of the MGM package, I believe. Criterion's working on the entire trilogy, and those movies should look very good on Blu as well.
I find most of the Criterion covers pretty good looking, that both looks different enough to be their own thing, and nicely fitting together within the Criterion collection. But that's just me.
Yeah, I'm already hesitating, and they're not even out yet. There's something about these Criterions that just makes me want to buy them all. They are great movies (the ones I've seen, at least) but my wallet doesn't like it at all, most of the time /img/vbsmilies/htf/biggrin.gif.
Stagecoach will definitely be mine, but I'm on the fence to the others. Of M I already own the MoC release, and of Brakhage I've seen only a couple of things on YouTube, of all places. And I'm not really sure I want to pay that much money for a lot of impressionistic shorts. Walkabout I don't...
Too bad it's more expensive for international customers. You're charged with $15 for the first two cases. After that it's also $2.50 for the additional cases. But for nine cases, your total would be $47.50, which is quite steep, personally.
Depends on whether they still have the rights. Most of the time those are issued for one format only, so rights have to be renewed to get a Blu-ray release.
But, for example, if Criterion simply owns the rights for the Director's Cut of Brazil, they could release that without many problems...
Regardless of the change in the aspect ratio (which isn't Criterion's fault, it's Storaro's) it is a great looking disc. Criterion just wants to have the director's approval for a release, if possible. Is that such a bad thing? I think not.
That's the only unfortunate thing about Criterion's Blu-Rays. I know they only have the rights to the films for the US most of the times, but now most of the people in Region B and C have to miss out on these wonderful releases. The players can be made region-free, but that still costs a lot of...
