SNL Season 1 on 12/5/06 (and season sets in general)

Of course everyone wants every set to be complete and I was certainly impressed with how Season One was handled. But for me even if there are edits I still might buy the next set depending on what's missing/changed. If it's a segment that I never cared for and it's missing then it's not a...

SNL Season 1 on 12/5/06 (and season sets in general)

Yes, Eddie & Joe are just about the only selling points of the 1980 season. But I'm not sure if even that would be enough to sell it. Eddie wasn't even a full-time player at first. I think the first 3 seasons of the "classic" years would sell. But eventually even that version of the show...

So much for paying attention to what the fans want. If they don't release the Eddie Murphy or Crystal/Short seasons then they are idiots !

SNL Season 1 on 12/5/06 (and season sets in general)

It's true that one season a year would be a bummer but the music rights for this show will likely be a nightmare. I'd rather wait a year between releases and have them done right then get them every 6 months to find they've been butchered. Quality. Not Quantity. My guess is that they'll...

I smell a once-a-year release schedule. Looney Toons anyone ?

SNL Season 1 on 12/5/06 (and season sets in general)

So far this set rocks despite the obvious inconsistent quality of the sketches. I do miss the bumpers but it doesn't ruin my enjoyment of the set. I'm ready for season 2.

Veering off the topic of "Bumpergate", does anyone know when the show began filming the dress rehearsals ? On future sets I'd love to see rehearsal versions of some of the famous sketches included as bonus features. In fact, on some of the E! Channel edits from the Carvey / Myers years you can...

SNL Season 1 on 12/5/06 (and season sets in general)

For those who are not familiar with the early days of the show, the quality was inconsistent at best but the show soon emerged as one of the most original programs ever on television. Few shows start out great, especially if they are as experimental as this one was. From my perspective once...

I pre-ordered mine as soon as it became available at Amazon. It arrived here on the offical US release date. I was very happy since this is an ideal Christmas gift idea. I'm anxious to find out after the holidays how well the set sold.

Just got my set and it's fabulous. Too bad so many of you will be missing out on something so great.

I too loved Dennis until he went insane. I also thought he was the best WU anchor. But I also enjoyed Jane & Norm in those roles. I disliked Chevy and despised Kevin Nealon doing it.

I can't tell you the year but La Lily did do the character (and the phone company ad) on SNL. It was very funny.

SNL Season 1 on 12/5/06 (and season sets in general)

Hard to fairly judge the show based on just the first season when it took a while for the show to find it's voice and a quality level. I personally never cared for most of the men on the show. I found them overrated, overused and under-talented. I ran hot and cold with Dan. And I found Chevy...

As much as I love the SNL bumpers I'm not about to pass up this set for such a small reason. Disappointing but not a dealbreaker. If anyone doesn't want to buy this set for their own reasons, that's fine. But when there are no more seasons released then you'll have no right to complain.

Are we certain that these bumpers actually existed in the first season ? What I remember were the unfunny cut-aways to the audience with the stupid captions underneath them.

The Sinead O'Connor performance that is now seen in repeats is the dress rehearsal version. I don't know if Martin Lawrence's monologue has been cut or edited down for reruns.

It's possible they'll skip around but I hope there won't be much of that. I'd prefer they go in chronological order while perhaps skipping certain seasons that they think might not be as popular.

The 80-81 seson , to my knowledge, was unseen for a LONG time until it turned up in the hour-long syndicated eps that were shown on E!. That's how I found out how bad that season really was sometimes. I think I'd likely avoid that box set if it was released. But that's one of the only ones.

I've seen at least part of that Tom Snyder interview on the MSNBC show Time & Again. Great to see these young, nervous performers on the cusp of stardom. Gilda is luminous.

SNL Season 1 on 12/5/06 (and season sets in general)

Speaking of complete episodes, does know of any famous sketches from the early years that were edited out of the show when it was seen in the 1 hour format on E! ? Since the last 30m of the show is usually a graveyard I'm assuming that most of the good stuff made it into the edited eps. But I...

This doesn't seem to be up for pre-order at Amazon yet unless I'm missing it. I'm wondering why they are so behind in this ? I'm anxious to compare prices between them and other online merchants.

I think promotion is the key. Seinfeld did well in part because people couldn't help but know the show was coming out. This was an NBC show so at least that's one network that might promote it heavily. They can also try re-airing the various reunion specials and classic episodes along with...

SNL Season 1 on 12/5/06 (and season sets in general)

The bottom line is that fans will have to buy a LOT of these sets if they want to see more in the future. Be sure to get one for yourself as soon as it's released (or soon after that) and with Christmas coming consider getting more sets for anyone you know who likes the show. If this set is...

SNL Season 1 on 12/5/06 (and season sets in general)

I didn't even realize that the original screentests still existed (or that they were even filmed). That will be great if it does turn up on the set. I'm not sure what else they could put on there although I'd like to see bonus features where former cast members give their impressions of specific...

SNL Season 1 on 12/5/06 (and season sets in general)

Where exactly is this release listed on the Deep Discount DVD site ? It didn't seem to come up in the search engine. Can someone provide a direct link to the actual page ? And speaking of the Louise Lasser ep, there was a story that had Lasser been unable to perform, Chevy Chase was prepared...

SNL Season 1 on 12/5/06 (and season sets in general)

Those of you who are putting down the later seasons clearly don't realize how terrific they could be. If they're released I'd likely buy all of the seasons with the obvious exception of the infamous 80-81 season. I saw all of those episodes when they were finally released from the vault and...

SNL Season 1 on 12/5/06 (and season sets in general)

I would have been willing to accept the hour long edited versions if that's all that had been made available. In a way that wouldn't have been so bad because even the best SNL eps need editing to cut the fat. But if these are indeed unedited then that's fabulous. The first season started off...
