A decades old dream come true.
Definitely pre-ordering this , if only to see at least the 2 next ones follow.
(But hey, WAC, if you're reading this, I'll buy them all if you release them!)
I was sad to learn that Grapevine Video discontinued their home video business after the retirement of founder Jack Hardy last week.
Another reminder, after Twilight Time, that boutique labels are fragile, operate with a limited team, and the departure of one single member can be enough for...
Please don't take it the wrong way, but that made me laugh!
And please watch it, I'd love to hear your comments.
You really don't have to watch it in full though. I've bough it as well, and the case was closed after just 5mn. I jumped forward here and there to be sure, watched the special...
I understand and can only relate to this. I didn't know they had a good release on their resume.
The other release I heard from was "L'inferno", and according to some of the backers then, it was a similar botched job and disappointment:
I'm sorry to hear that, and I salute you for your honesty.
I read some of your previous posts in another thread, promoting this release with enthusiasm. Admitting you were wrong in such an honest way is very honorable.
Whatever your income, it takes real passion to pay 50€ for a silent film on...
Yeah, but in this case, DNR only removed the film grain... and nothing else! The DVDFREAK comparison shows that all the film damage from the 2003 version remains.
Agreed, but have you seen the stills comparison?
In this specific case, it looks like the "restoration" came down to extreme DNR, removal of the original tints, and a 29.97fps interlaced transfer. And that's it.
At 50€ a disk, that's steep.
The comparison also shows that the 2016 German DVD...
DVDFREAK has reviewed Redwood Creek's "4K restoration" of Warning Shadows ("Schatten" / 1923), and boy, this one's a doozy.
I sympathize with those who shelled out 50€ + shipping fees for this...
Indeed, thanks for the info!
But it's part of a $120 boxset...
Regarding the other included films, "Island of doomed men" could be fun, if only for Peter Lorre, but I'm really not interested in the other ones. With Imprint's insane shipping fees to Europe, this will be a nearly $150 buy for one...
Ha ha, very well said!
Indeed, I can picture this setup for a one-shot, large scale public event (the basic idea is actually clever), but trying this at home is another matter.
I don't think so. The most expensive step in (seriously) releasing old films on BD is the restoration. Once that's done, a limited release (like the Twilight Time or Imprint models), or better, on demand production doesn't cost that much, and is usually recouped by the sales.
I totally...
Like others here, I'm afraid the market is just not there anymore for a proper release of vintage 2-strips technicolor movies... individual release that is.
On the other hand, a technicolor themed boxset featuring at least 2 or 3 movies would look more attractive to me.
I totally agree on this...
There are so many...
I'd start with Jean Negulesco's Three Strangers with Peter Lorre and Sydney Greenstreet, and Paul Wendkos' The Burglar with Dan Dureya and Jayne Mansfield.
Sorry if these are dumb questions, but...
How does a stacked PJs setup work? Are both PJs supposed to project the same video signal at the same time, while perfectly aligned to the pixel? If that's so, it sounds like hell to set up.
Some of them are so exclusively pink I'm not sure they can be restored to their original colors...
I'm curious, do you know what kind of film stock it is?
I often wondered the same question myself.
Although I only buy movies I love, with a high replay value or which I'll want to show to someone else at some point, I know there are a lot I'll never watch again, if only because of time constraints.
But I keep buying and collecting. It's compulsive...
