Blu-ray Review Woman on the Run Blu-ray Review

I first saw Woman On The Run on Prime 3-4 years ago, I believe it was the UCLA version, it looked good. It popped up again on Prime but this time a horrible colorized version. I searched many sources for the UCLA version & found it on YT but it suffers from the additional YT compression...

Well as usual this thread will cause me to pull the Blu-ray out and rewatch. Influence is one of the positive aspects of social media!

    Hamlet (1990)

I just started watching Hamlet on Prime. The video looks like upscaled DVD, does anyone know if it looks better on other streaming channels? Has there been any talk of a Blu-ray (Region A or B) or 4K? Thanks!

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - Rolling Thunder -- in 4k UHD

Disc 2 Blu-ray holds the movie plus the extras. The question is: is the new Blu-ray an upgrade on the old Blu-ray? Thanks!

I checked three of my Warner Archive DVDs and none have CC, so I think it unlikely for Devil's Doorway!

Thanks. The DVD does not have subtitles (a strike against it) but does it have Closed Captions?

Blu-ray Review Amélie Blu-ray Steelbook Review

The first Blu-ray was 1080i MPEG2, that put me off buying it. The second was 1080p AVC with improved picture quality, I must have missed that one & it's still available in Region B. For this Sony are the subtitles synched well to the dialog? There will be no 4K release because of director...

Press Release Warner Archive Collection Press Release: Devil's Doorway (1950) (Blu-ray)

I have never seen this movie so was considering buying the DVD, as it's not available to stream. IMHO Warner transfers are usually close to the best they can be, so I was thrown by your comments, what did you not like about the DVD? If you consider the DVD poor, unless new elements have been...

    Apple TV+ Constellation

So what does its title mean?

    Apple TV+ Constellation

Just watched episode 7. A constellation is a static grouping of stars often used for navigation purposes. As far as I can tell that has nothing to do with this ATV+ story. They should have called this series Relativity, because that's what it's all about. Albert Einstein is rolling in his grave.

    Apple TV+ Constellation

Extremely high production values & great Solaris like story but you have to catch EVERY nuance of the dialog to make sense of it, that is particularly difficult if you're hard of hearing & reading subtitles. This week's episode is a real humdinger!

Press Release BVHE Press Release: The Abyss, True Lies, Aliens, Titanic, Avatar and Avatar: The Way of the Water (4k UHD) (Blu-ray)

Thanks Todd. I believe it unlikely Blu-rays will become available, most people want the extras disc & I'd want it too! Plan B, still waiting for a rental on ATV+. I wish ATV+ would notify viewers when rentals become available?

Press Release BVHE Press Release: The Abyss, True Lies, Aliens, Titanic, Avatar and Avatar: The Way of the Water (4k UHD) (Blu-ray)

I don't have a 4K player so only need the regular Blu-rays. What happens to returns with a faulty 4K disc, is anyone offering sets for resale minus 4K disc?

    UHD Review Aliens UHD Review

OK, if grain is completely decorrelated frame to frame, I understand how this could work. Pixels and/or groups of pixels are either static or have common velocities frame to frame, the grain does not, & that is used to define a true picture element vs grain. Does that mean a pixel compromising...

    UHD Review Aliens UHD Review

It's disappointing the streaming version doesn't match the disc version in the areas described, was it intentionally dumbed down? How about the regular Blu-ray, was that dumbed down? I don't have a 4K player for fear of another upgrade cycle (VHS, laserdisc, DVD, Blu-ray). I've just watched the...

Apple TV+ Apple TV+ Ad-Supported Tier In Works

I justified an ATV+ subscription when Netflix DVD closed because of it's original content & highest streaming quality (bit rates). The $5billion Netflix/WWE deal is an insult to regular subscribers. If WWE ever comes to Netflix (without it being a special subscription) I'll cancel Netflix. NFL...

Apple TV+ Apple TV+ Ad-Supported Tier In Works

Will there be ad & ad-free subscriptions? Makes you wish advertising funds would dry up? I've used ad supported channels for years but ad frequency & duration is way up, so now I avoid them. If you can find something you like, The Roku Channel is still good & Peacock puts its ads up front, are...

Official 2024 Oscar Nominations And Discussion Thread

Of course, Oppenheimer got all it deserved, it's as though the voters saw the extras disc & were impressed by the herculean effort just like me but why so little love for Napoleon? I thought it was tremendous. Was it historically accurate?

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - The Abyss -- in 4k UHD

IMHO for physical media the P&S fullframe DVD has been the best option up to now. I have streamed The Abyss in HD a couple of times over the years & it looked pretty good. I don't have a 4K player, for fear of another (VHS, laserdisc, DVD, Blu-ray) upgrade cycle. With that in mind, is the...

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - True Lies -- in 4k UHD

This is a comic book style flick, not a cinematic work of art, it has dated badly. I saw a previous HD stream a few years ago, it was full of artifacts, so this 4K sounds like a big improvement. We can now look forward to posts, complaining about this disc & reminiscing its theatrical look, for...

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - The Abyss -- in 4k UHD

He did this so you'd fixate on that scene, creating tons of social media fodder in the process, while making the rest of the film acceptable to RAH. I've been waiting for the 4K rental price to drop. It looks as though I'll miss all the extras. Dare I pull the laserdisc boxset from the basement...

General Discussion Caleb D: The cord cutting dream is officially over

We reserve evenings for joint viewing. I do most of the research ahead of time, I know what she likes. We absolutely hate wasting time searching thru sites looking for something to watch. Last weekend we were with two sets of inlaws (who have only ever had cable) & are now being forced to...

General Discussion Caleb D: The cord cutting dream is officially over

The big difference between streaming & cable is the ability to easily cancel the subscription. If they make it hard to cancel, I'll never return. When Netflix dropped DVDs I used the extra funds to subscribe to ATV+ & voila, the subs increased from $6 to $10/month. It has the best video quality...

General Discussion Caleb D: The cord cutting dream is officially over

Does your significant other agree with your approach? I know mine doesn't & most of her family wouldn't either, watching old movies is seen as odd. I watch mine on my own in off peak hours.

Digital Review The Abyss Digital UHD Review

When will the rental version appear on ATV+? I'm guessing around the time of the disc releases. The Abyss laserdisc boxed set cost me $100 back in the early 90s, I believe I've put enough money into the abyss already.

UHD Review Leviathan – UHD Blu-ray Review

You had me at The Abyss (I had the laserdisc boxed set). I saw Leviathon on Prime in HD a year or so ago, good flick. What's the track record of Kino 4K's being released to streaming services (other KIno channels not available on LG TVs)?
