Never say never! Since the film is indeed with Disney ( at least for now ) there is always a possibility. Disney has certainly done an excellent job of shepharding its holdings, both in-house and its various divisions, otherwise we would not now be getting the James Cameron films or some of...
I‘m not gonna talk too negative about the posts on this thread on 80 Days. What I will say is I have faith in WB’s team on the restoration. I know it will take time, as much time as needed on the project. But then again, that is what they said about Brothers Grimm and we were rewarded with an...
Getting back to the intended subject of this thread…now that Disney/20th has its rights back (for the time being at least), the door is certainly open for a 4K restoration of TSOM for 4K (and perhaps 3-D issue).
Although there was a prior 4K remastering, any possible 4K issue will have to come...
Unless there is better 16K or even 20K resolution scanners available in the next say, five years, MAD WORLD wouldn’t look any better in 4K, but remember we are talking about an anamorphic image of a 2.76:1 film whose elements were compromised over the decades since its original release.
Of...
That is the problem…there has never been a definitive home entertainment edition of SUPERMAN that includes all three cuts plus all the supplements.
I will say one thing for Warner…they did a fantastic job on THE WIZARD OF OZ’s 75th anniversary box set (with the film, perks, booklets, and...
Well this is a big letdown for me…though expected. No SUPERMAN...which means we fans have to come up with our own bootleg Criterion edition. I guess egg is now being thrown at my face.
Also, the setting of the clue was in Italy, not London (PINOCCHIO is set in Italy).
Finally, should have...
Reading deeper into the clue on X, it seems to point to four features, more into two but less into the others. The words “don’t fly away” could reference a line from Lois Lane in SUPERMAN. The set of balloons rising from the neighborhood, as well as the neighborhood itself, could point to...
Great announcement…one of Karloff’s best efforts from the 1960s. I see from the listings that only the US version will be included. Will the original Italian version be included as a bonus feature? I understand there are rights issues between MGM and IMF on the two versions.
Actually it’s Mrs. Marshall, but to you she is Ms. Kathleen Kennedy ( she is married to producer Frank Marshall),
If you really want Mrs. Kennedy, she is not available for obvious reasons.
Ask not what Indiana Jones can do for you…ask what you can do for Indiana Jones.
It it possible that WB could release a more definitive 45th Anniversary stand-alone edition of S1 uniting all three versions of the film plus new and legacy features, and a new 5.1 mix of the 3-hour TV cut…in the mold of last year’s ST:TMP Paramount put out last year. With the right kind of...
Correction here…the majority of the Hitchcock titles (except To Catch A Thief and Psycho—more on this in a second) didn‘t actually revert to MCA/U right away…a deal was made with Hitchcock (while he was still alive) that after a certain amount of time these films revert to him. It was sometime...
For the record, it is actually Universal Television that owns the pre-1950 Paremount library. MCA originally bought the classic Paramount library in 1957, not the 1970s. MCA eventually bought Universal shortly after. EMKA, the actual copyright holder, was a unit of MCA (the company name is a...
I have yet to see this film again (and I do plan to get the new Arow release), but having seen this film twice it is highly recommended. It deserves 5 stars.
To repeat what I have said elsewhere, this is, by far, the greatest modern-day horror masterpiece ever made. Not even THE EXORCIST or...
The best answer that I can really give you can be found at this thread:

Safe to say, however, that there are many possibilities and potentials for such a release, not the least of which is it could be the first...
My question on Criterion and SUPERMAN was partially answered, and GF’s response to it does imply that such a release is possible since he did mention “contemporary“ WB films to come from Criterion, so this is the closest in years we have ever come to making a Criterion Collection of SUPERMAN a...
Looks like once again SUPERMAN won’t be flying on Criterion anytime soon. A weak lineup for December indeed. Criterion never saves its best for last anymore.
My Question, two as a matter of fact. I know you now have a deal with the Criterion Collection...any chance of a definitive release of SUPERMAN (with all three versions together for the first time in one collection) with the 45th Anniversary coming next year? Also, I have been hearing that the...
According to Rick Goldschmidt (who I sometimes get in touch with), the dialogue that is replaced in the current version is indeed Paul Frees as taken from a “scratch track”, recorded as a guide for eventual narrator Greer Garson. And yes, some of the sound effects are also missing from the...
If you’re wondering why THE LITTLE DRUMMER BOY is not included in this 4K collection, it is because a 35MM print/element has gone MIA (missing in action) for the past four decades. It has been said that an original 35MM print is hidden in the NBC archives, possibly waiting to be unearthed...
I am almost certain that had this film’s copyright been renewed, it would have more likely ended up with Universal. DESERT FURY, another Wallis production and pre-’50 Paramount, had its copyright renewed by EMKA/Uni as it was part of the package bought by EMKA in 1957.
If it‘s true, then you know who to blame for it…some dimbulb named L-U-C-A-S. I stand by my opinion, though, having seen the film a couple of times already.
Coincidenally, POLTERGEIST is also coming to 4K.
Just saw the announcement that a proper reissue of Robert Wise’s 1977 horror masterpiece (and it is truly one in every sense of the word) of AUDREY ROSE is coming in November 2022.
For a horror movie that’s rated PG, it certainly is one horror movie that will leave you emotionally shaking long...
ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA is no longer owned by WB…Embassy International (aka Regency) and I believe Lionsgate now own the film, with Disney holding video distribution rights.
That’s not all, folks. Heard about the coming 4K. Due to the nature of the surviving elements (which are mainly of the General Release Version), we’re probably going to see a 4K of only that version. But, so long as Criterion still has the sub license from MGM, there is a chance the longer...
I am guessing that WB may have acquired the North American rights to this film from MGM, and thus WB would now own all rights to the entire MAD MAX film franchise, thus explaining why certain supplements are missing from this new collection.
