BTW, Malvo offed at least 2, and possibly 3 more people in the final episode, bringing his personal bodycount up to 33 confirmed / 3 probables. (Plus the dog.)
Added to the list are Federal Agents Budge & Pepper, and (probably) the car salesman/librarian. (The same guy told Lester he worked a...
I couldn't agree more. I see no value whatsoever in blaming others for Malvo's murders. Might as well blame the gun lobby, or the manufacturers of the knife Malvo used on Numbers and the belt (I think it was a belt) he used on Wrench's police guard.
By that logic you could argue that Gus allowing Malvo to go free in the pilot episode led to the subsequent deaths of everyone! After every front page homicide, someone will invariably point fingers elsewhere and blame everyone but the murderer. It gets a little silly after a while, though. Gus...
Glad you asked; I've been keeping score. I make it 31 definites and 2 probables, (not including King, Milos Stavros' beautiful dog.)
Here's the breakdown:
The frozen accountant, Sam Hess, Chief Thurman, Don Chump(h), Mr. Numbers, Fargo Crime Syndicate (22), the unnamed policeman guarding...
I didn't think anything could depress me more than Shirley Temple's death; but losing Sid Caesar the very next day was the proverbial "double whammy." The Golden Age is slipping away from us, and there's not a damn thing anyone can do about it.
This one really hurt because, as with Jonathan...
Gawd, I love this movie! Just got the set in January and I've watched it 3 times already!
Favorite extended sequence: the "recap" cross-cutting at the end of Act I, which gathers up all the story threads into one exhilarating montage, sort of like D.W. Griffith on laughing gas.
Favorite single...
Brian, I tried it myself already and it didn't work out. The slots in the Essential L&H set are smaller and the space is much, much tighter.
The L&H set is absolutely essential, of course -- I couldn't imagine owning a film library without it -- but I keep the discs in separate storage cases...
For anyone who dislikes the slide-in cardboard slots used in this release, especially if (like me) you're worried about scratched discs -- I found a nice solution!
Sleeve City (sleevecityusa.com) sells a product called Diskeeper Anti-Static Round Bottom CD/DVD Sleeves, which come 100 to the...
Just screened the extended version and I still can't find Allen Jenkins. (I know he plays a cop, like Tom Kennedy. I've seen a still of it somewhere.) Can someone help? Where's "Officer Dibble"??
Delivered! I guess I'll be calling in "sick" tomorrow. Ha!
There IS one disappointing note, and it's a minor one. It breaks my heart to say it, because he's such a hero of mine, but 89 year-old Jack Davis needs to hang up the gloves.
There's absolutely no shame in it. Like Mickey Rooney he's...
Click on the "Track Package" icon anyway. My Amazon order page still says "Pre-ordered" (as opposed to "Shipped"), but the Tracking History says it's not only in transit, but currently at a USPS carrier facility that's less than an hour away.
Do you guys (RolandL and Rob-Ray) have Amazon Prime? I'm in the middle of the free trial period, meaning 2-day shipping is free, temporarily. My order also indicates a Tuesday 21 January delivery date. Hell, I'm ready to sleep with Mike Mazurki if I have to!
Won't like it, though...
If anyone is interested, PBS has announced it will broadcast the Season 3 premiere of BBC's SHERLOCK on 1/19/2014, just two days prior to the Criterion IAMMMMW release on the 21st. It sounds like Christmas will happen all over again in January. Could it be, to coin a phrase, an "Indian Christmas"?
"If we bring a little joy into your humdrum lives, it makes us feel as though our hard work ain't been in vain for nothin'."

(Sorry, couldn't resist.)
Well, he may be "off to more important things," but it's with his tail between his legs and on a deflated smug cloud!
-- All in good fun, Ron, I promise ;)
I hate explaining the obvious, Rick, but my comment said NOTHING about your being "alone in your opinion." My comment DID address the insufferable smugness of your post, which you've now demonstrated with spectacular flying colors, along with an apparent persecution complex. Thanks for making my...
Re: Carl Reiner's supposed egomania -- Of all the celebs I've met while living in Los Angeles over the last 25 years, the absolute nicest, hands down, was Carl Reiner. Does he have an ego? Well, first off I'd have to say his impressive resume earns him the right to have one. "An...
I'm positively gob-smacked that this release doesn't include a life-size, bikini-clad animatronic of a dancing Barrie Chase. Back to the drawing board, Criterion! Please correct this unforgivable oversight, and mail same to my private studio in Burbank, California.
I never thought I'd see the day, honestly! I'm happy to eat my words, btw, as I file this in the "Too-good-to-be-true-but-IS-anyway!" drawer, (which is currently empty, nacherly.)
Besides ordering this immediately (needless to say), I'm personally going to send a copy to Leonard Maltin, whose...
I used to see Marvin Kaplan in Burbank regularly; he often had dinner alone at The Coral, a local diner. My friends and I always said hello (unless he was eating) and he was invariably friendly and happy to meet fans. He asked what we did, and seemed genuinely interested when we told him we were...
I work in the licensing business -- in the consumer products end, which includes home video. (I won't reveal the name of the major studio I work for, but its initials begin with a "Big W.") I've been here for 15 years, so I'm no novice at DVD marketing strategies.
At this point, Criterion has...
For the record, Terry-Thomas LIKED Ethel Merman and seems to have enjoyed working with her, according to his book. He makes that clear, although he does acknowledge her domineering side. I wouldn't put much stock in any celebrity book with "Babylon" in the title, BTW.
Terry-Thomas met Benny at a party, not on set -- according to his book. He was introduced to JB by Groucho. He told Benny an innocent joke and Benny didn't care for it at all. He doesn't give the date or the location, but he does relate the joke. Not a knee-slapper exactly, but I can imagine...
