At Amazon... $29.96 per volume and free shipping with my Prime membership. Then I just got an email giving me an extra $3 off on each volume, lower price guarantee thing.
I spent all afternoon and evening watching this new BR release twice. It is a superb remastering of John Wayne's Circus World. At the end of the film it says that the film was restored and remastered to Hi-Def from an original 35 mm horizontal 8 perf Technirama camera negative by Pinewood Post...
I've got both vol. of Season 9 at $30 each and free shipping both coming out on August 6th. Hopefully Season 10 and 11 will be out by the end of the year. DVDPlanet and DeepDiscount have their prices up to about $38 per vol. I'd get your orders in for the cheaper ones while you can and before...
Season 9 (Sept. '63 - June '64)
Chester's last episode was in March 1964. Festus had his first episode in December 1962, but it was a single episode. He started full-time in January 1964.
Festus Hagan (Ken Curtis) (1959-1975) & Chester Goode (Dennis Weaver (1955-1964)
Quint Asper (Burt...
That's what I assumed but they have had good masters so far and this has been the first one with this poor of a transfer. I've watched all of Duke's new BR's at least 5 times each and other then a couple that were poor quality this was the first with an actual flaw transfer.
I received two of the three new releases that were suppose to be out on April 30th.
Pals of the Saddle and The Lonely Trail. I'm beating a dead horse when I complain about the case images but this time Olive blew the remastering. Maybe this is from the master, if so they should have found a...
First, Paramount probably gave McLintock! to Olive to do since they knew there would be knock-offs as there has been since the film went public domain. Gretchan has no control, if she did there would have been a much better cover for the BR release. The Wayne family did originally retain the...
That's a damn shame. Guess I'll be holding on to my VHS and Laser copies for quite awhile. I already burned several copies to DVD just so I never lose the full feature.
This is the code that should be on the side of your VHS box:
3 hr. 22 min. 55 sec.
You can see a lot of behind the scene photos and stories in a 2007 limited edition book called:
The Alamo: A Visual Celebration of John Wayne's Classic Movie.
Not sure how available it is currently. I think they stopped at 1500 hardcover copies.
I think you can pretty much forget that idea. Batjac is not in the business of film restoration. They have control over a small list of films that were produced by Batjac but it would not be up to them to do any remastering, that would be up to the studios. The special releases of The High...
These are all decent soundtracks. Yes, the Tadlow one is good but so is the 2004 Collector's Edition... both are 3 CD sets and have very nice booklet inserts and both done by the Prague Philharmonic. The Tadlow is the first complete film score so it does top my list as well.
........
I will...
I understand the love of The Alamo by everyone but it all boils down to one thing like Robert said, The Alamo is owned by a private corporation, MGM/UA. Without their approval, funding and over-all blessing you won't ever see anything done with this film. I don't care how much people snort...
The John Wayne auction has nothing to do with the restoration. Any funding would have to come from the studio not John Wayne Enterprises. That money goes to the JWCF, Team Duke and other charities. To fund the restoration MGM or a private corporation would have to kick in the funds. As...
The original full "uncut" version and roadside version were never put on DVD. I can only assume the copy you found in Singapore is a bootleg copy which are typically a fair - poor quality recording. I've made several copies of my VHS tapes onto DVD's just because they will last longer. I used...
I think there are so many sizes and times of this film it's hard to keep track of. The roadshow version, the cut version after the roadshow was pulled. The re-release in 1967, the DVD release, the UK release, the laserdisc release and the TV release. Some has different aspect ratios...
I still have an unopened copy of The Alamo on Laserdisc. I don't have a machine anymore but if I did I would connect it to one of my DVR's and copy it to a high quality DVD. That's about the only way I'd open this copy. Here's to MGM finding the money for this project real soon.
Thanksgiving would be an extra special day this year if I had this projector in our home. With myself, my wife, my mother-in-law and a couple friends we're having over I'd make sure we spent dinner watching my collection of John Wayne movies, especially the blu-ray releases. I had my first...
I just did some searching and found 3 more articles that seems to paint a better picture then the EW article did.

After reading the EW article about the Bond films and other M-G-M woes it doesn't sound good for them. No potential buyers and they are canceling projects. Instead of Bond23 the lot is being used by the next Pirates film. The Hobbit and The Three Stooges projects lost main actors and funding...
I just saw a new release by Dimitri Tiomkin of The Alamo soundtrack and in the description where it states what is included in this new CD set is a statement that "New “Directors Cut” of the Complete Epic Film now in Preparation". Are they talking about the one you are working on or is someone...
That's a good one... drop a nuke into the earth core to fix the problem. Isn't that already in a movie from back when? The visuals were impressive but they'll be just as impressive on a 60" at home. You're right about the Deep Impact with copycat tidal waves and cruise ship that was...
I went and saw the film Saturday and have to say I just wasn't impressed after all the hype it received. It just seemed like another disaster film that lasted way too long. I'd say save your money and watch it on PPV or when it comes out on rental. I'd say 2 out of 5 stars for this film.
Robert,
I was wondering if you have a status report on the restoration process. I run a forum that every member is a fan of The Alamo and the legend who made the film. Do you have something that I can take back to these fans since the 50th anniversary year is fast approaching?
