The Titanic 3D thing has been known for a while, except Cameron did confirm it more recently that it would be released in 2012 to celebrate the 100th anniversary.
I am quite confident that The Abyss and True Lies will both be released THIS year as Fox is really pushing to cash in on all things...
It may be slightly off topic, but has Mr Cameron seen T:S? have you seen it for that matter Mr Ling? what are your thoughts?
I saw a midnight preview of it last night and I must say....I thought it was quite intense. I had read some criticism, so I lowered my expectations accordingly, and what...
When I watched my UK Skynet BD when I did infact have it (waiting for the official street release now), I noticed what Bill Hunt mentioned straight away.
the original Lionsgate BD had alot of edge enhancement, or as Bill put it, alot of sharpening done it. Some of the scenes inside Cyberdyne...
Mentasm, good choice with Onkyo, you will not be disappointed, even with the 5.1.
I decided to re-watch T2 Skynet Edition (this time by myself) and decided to "nitpick" the disc. I've noticed the artefacts, but they aren't distracting at all. though at times, they can be noticeable. I have...
Mentasm,
Perhaps I wasn't looking out for the artefacts, so I don't recall seeing anything too distracting, I was definitely pleased with the transfer. I hope Lowry restore it for it's 20th Anniversary which will be in 2011, that's the only way I can imagine T2 looking better than it does now...
I'm aware I'm quite late, but I just got my hands on T2 Skynet Edition today, though mind you, it's the UK version...
It's definitely an improvement over the UK Optimum BD. The colours felt a bit more natural to me, especially at the end when Sarah dives and slides through the floor, and the...
I'm not at all deluded that Predator can look as good as 2001: A Space Odyssey or Blade Runner. I don't mind grain in films. My problem with Predator wasn't the grain. it was just an overall poor transfer. It wasn't quite the abomination as I originally remembered it to be, and if the source...
Okay, I decided to humour you Martin.
I decided to view Predator again so I gave it a rent. I did a direct comparison on my 1080p 40'' Sony Bravia between the DVD and BD.
I will admit, the daylight scenes are much nicer looking, but still with a very heavy layer of grain covering the...
Martin, perhaps you should go back and take another look at Lemmykoopah's post.
he was saying that such releases like Fox's Predator and MGM's Robocop are pretty much a disgrace to HD enthusiasts. You decide to pay top dollar for a new TV, BD and/or PS3 player and when you whack your 50 bucks...
I can definitely understand and agree with most of Steve's post, but having said that...
Studios still feel that its Blu's "super interactivity" which will sell the format. I wouldn't mind a 'BD Superbit', but one can argue that BD's should include the highest possible audio and picture in the...
somebody please feel free to step in and correct me...
I'm pretty sure that the slightly lower bitrate shouldn't affect the overall picture quality all that much, it's not like here in the UK, we'll be receiving a macroblock-filled, pixelated, super soft looking transfer.
I once read (and...
I too agree with Sam, the pop up track you did for ID4 was extensive, yet very informative and fun.
I also liked the little Alien scatter hunt game thing (forget the official title). I must admit, I never actually finished it, but it was definitely one of the most unique things to Blu when it...
are you allowed to comment on this new T1 release Van?
if so, do you think (or know) that it's the Lowry print or just a re-packaged 'cash-in' version?
my apologies, it was intended more as a tongue-in-cheek thing than an insult, but I see why it would be inappropriate. edited.
One thing that I've always thought about is...
Skynet's supposed to know alot about humans, and how to hurt us best, i.e. the T-800's "I have detailed files on human...
well, time travelling always has it's shares of plotholes. by that logic, NOTHING in Back to the Future makes sense, but that's a different topic altogether.
Though, I will say this:
I was under the impression that the reason Skynet sent Terminators back through time to eliminate Sarah is...
I understand your views Merrick...
I don't always believe that films in a franchise should be compared to other entries in that same franchise, but at the same time, you have to keep up the same level of integrity that the previous films in said franchise had.
You can always make changes and...
I must be honest here, when I first saw T3, the crane chase blew me away. it was really well executed...but everything that came after that just didn't live up to what was essentially, an exciting action set piece.
I hated the tone - sometimes it tried to be serious, then all of the sudden, it...
thanks man. I kept thinking 1996 for some reason, but 1997 seems about right. ;)
I must say, I am quite shocked at seeing the Indiana Jones trilogy on Blu so soon, (Bill Hunt gave a tip about it being in the pipeline for later this year), but I suppose the fourth film really helped raise alot...
yeah, that's how LFL have always played it. I mean, Indiana Jones didn't hit DVD till 2003 and the Original SW trilogy didn't hit DVD till 2004. almost 10 years after the format was released.
I can't recall *exactly* when the DVD format hit, but it really didn't start taking off till 2000...
haha, judging by what Lucas has done in the past, I wouldn't be surprised if Star Wars on Blu is still another 5 years away.
I'll keep my fingers crossed....but I won't hold my breath. There any many more films out there that I'd like to see on Blu before Star Wars.
I've spent the better part of an hour just trying to find links to Ed Harris' comments on the Abyss. I am sorry to say that unfortunately I was not successful. I even checked Wikipedia, but strangely, not much there either.
It was probably back in 2004 or 2005, I can't be sure whether I read...
Lowry are indeed amazing with their restorations. I have full confidence and faith in them. the early Bond films, Indiana Jones trilogy and *mostly* in the Original Star Wars Trilogy.
I have no doubt that the Mono track will be included in the next BD incarnation of T1. people have been...
hahaha, testicle!! :D
tentacle is the word I think you were looking for.
yeah, I agree that a retrospective look doc on The Abyss BD would be pretty amazing. I'm pretty sure Ed Harris would be happy to contribute as he speaks quite highly of The Abyss and seems to be very proud of that film...
I remember years back, shortly before True Lies was theatrically released, there was an interview with James Cameron in which he said that he was currently editing the film and I remember his quote at the time was something like:
"we're currently at 150 minutes, just trying cut the fat"
so...
hey Van, I was wondering...
I don't know if you have any say or influence in the decision, but is there any chance you could push for this BD to be region-free? I know Lionsgate don't ALWAYS region code, but they have done in the past. I would very much love to buy this as my Optimum UK T2 BD...
I'm not sure if it's something which can be achieved THIS year, but Mr Cameron should have somewhat of a lesser busy schedule once Avatar comes out this year (even though it won't be till December!) but I'd love for plans to be underway to see a re-stored Abyss (both cuts is a must even though...
