One of the first-season Naked City episodes had James Franciscus going undercover as a high school teacher and I wonder if this episode was the inspiration for either the Mr. Novak series or having Franciscus play the lead role.
I think your characterization of the Robert Duvall episode of Naked City as a "child molester story" is a bit of an unfair simplification. If I recall the episode correctly, the woman in Duvall's building suggests that he was misbehaving with the girl, but it seems to me that she only says that...
I totally agree! Jack Warden was great. I once ran into him in my neighborhood (NYC/Hell's Kitchen) hardware store, of all places, where he was visiting the owner.
I think your "public domain" question is a good one, Neil, and it certainly didn't seem to me that you were "upset." I think all fans of classic television are happy about the chance of a previously unavailable series being issued, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't have a realistic discussion...
I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a blu-ray release of M Squad. I say either get the current set or save your money for the upcoming complete Naked City set.
I'm definitely ready for a Batman set. But just to clarify, Nelson Riddle wasn't a producer for Frank Sinatra or anyone else--he was an arranger and a composer.
I pulled out my old Hullabaloo DVDs for comparison and I can see that the new sets definitely feature some new material. But the original 3 DVDs provide over 13 hours of viewing, while these 4 new sets look like their total time is probably less that 5 hours.
It doesn't cost anything to be optimistic, so I'll remain hopeful. Plus, the longer it takes them to release a complete Batman set, the more time I have to get through my backlog of TV series DVDs. :)
I accidentally posted my comment inside the quote box. (I really wish there was an edit function!) Here's my reply:
Thanks for your insights about the process. But, again, I was able to watch the entire Password set and enjoyed it fully. I went nuts when they changed the music on The Fugitive...
I don't know a lot about film restoration (and I don't know what TSWJR stands for).
But I do know that I love Jack Benny's television show--even the cheapo DVDs of Benny programs. So whether or not Shout! did the right thing with the way they handled these shows, I'm still excited about their...
I made a mistake in my last post, and I don't see the edit button. Here's what I meant to say:
It seems to me that even though the replacement discs had different artwork, once the corrected discs are added to the complete set of DVDs, it would make sense that their artwork matches all the...
