Even in light of the Sanctuary release being somewhat superior according to DVD Beaver, I'll keep the Roan Version. --This was the first film I saw Sinatra in and turned him on to me as an actor! It's great! I like anything with James Gleason in it too!
I just got around to purchasing the 60th anniversary edition from a third party seller on Amazon. It was cheap, but came without a case. I checked out the back cover on DVD empire and it lists "Rare Archival Interviews With Walt Disney -- Spanning 3 Decades!." All I see on the menu is Audio...
Only 12,000?!? That seems really low. If that's accurate, they may be coming out with volume 2 because it was already in the works before volume one hit the streets. Either way, I hope it's a money maker for Sony so that we can get the complete run.
The film and transfer are great! For those that haven't seen the bonus features (below), they are great too! Especially the promo short with Tyrone Power and Randolph Scott.Commentary with film historian Randy Skretvedt"Three of a Kind": Charley's Aunt promotional short featuring Jack Benny...
We knew Universal would eventually come out with general distribution of these sets and it's finally here. Although at a little higher price than those who bought them early at Best Buy for $19.99 each, it's certain to be a relief who don't want to pay between $40 and $80 for them from scalpers...
What shot is missing? Having only watched the spectacularly restored black and white I wouldn't know. Also, they did a great job with that set all the way around and are a great company for titles that major studios have no interest in. Especially serials.
Anything with Jack in it is great! To Be or Not to Be was long overdue in 2005 and Charley's Aunt was a pleasant surprise last year, however, I don't anticipate any of his unreleased films coming to DVD any time soon (Broadway Melody of 1936 in out in April).
I'll get it, but I can't understand how some major studios expect to market their products without full specs. Most of the time Warner, Fox, Disney and MGM do great jobs of getting out full specs and artwork. However, Universal, Sony, Paramount and all the rest do a pretty lousy job, and most of...
Most other tv shows of that era I get a good chuckle out of, but Car 54 has me on the floor. Joe Ross is hilarious and that's an understatement. His eyes, his voice and the way he talks to people without even looking directly at them.
