Not making a plug for him, but Roger Evans' company MovieStuff makes frame by frame scanners for 8-35mm film. Not cheap, but not the price of "professional" units. It comes with a 2K or 4K camera but you can put any camera you want to on it. Scans around 10-15fps uncompressed depending on...
For those curious, the recent release of Aldrich's THE BIG KNIFE on MGM MOD is a pressed blu-ray disc at 1.85:1 (back cover erroneously lists 1.33:1). For those who missed the Arrow Academy release.
Yes, interlaced blu rays exist, but mostly ancient transfers of movies (e.g. WILDE UK blu ray) or TV shows originated on SD video (upscaled vintage DOCTOR WHO).
Very much happy to report that Classic Flix used the same transfer from StudioCanal that Network used for the UK blu ray. Despite the cover art, the source carries the British title Dark Eyes Of London. The StudioCanal transfer looks the best that I've ever seen this title look. I cannot...
Yes. The UK release is from Network and their transfer was licensed from Studiocanal as well. The Network has an audio commentary by Kim Newman and Stephan Jones, and extended conversation by Newman/Jones about Bela Lugosi in the UK, trailers, booklet, and slipcover. The Classic Flix doesn't...
Got my Classic Flix version in yesterday but haven't had a chance to watch it yet. On the packaging it shows that they licensed it from Studiocanal, so I'm sure it's the same transfer used on the UK release, which looked great.
I've seen the UK blu ray, the transfer of this is supposed to be the same. Except for the baked in dupey titles, it looks great. My copy if this one (Classic Flix) has shipped and I'll be able to do a better comparison.
Yeah, Amazon's shipping has been a s**t show for some time now. I was just notified of a UPS shipment directly from Allied Vaughn via Amazon of RANCHO and DAUGHTERS.
Due to comments on this board, I decided to order THE THREE MUSKETEERS. And while I was at it, I got the other two blu-rays they had to offer. Another standout disc is TOO MANY KISSES with Richard Dix and.....Harpo Marx! The image is immaculate, licensed from Paramount. In addition, there is...
Spent some time with MAIGRET season 1 (1960-61) today. Some may expect me to complain about the kinescope sourcing for the episodes. Yes, it's a low rez source, but it is what it is and we're lucky to have them. But what I really wanted to complain about is the smutty nature of the stories...
Not unexpected, delays are becoming the norm these days. Something told me this was going to happen. I've waited all these years for a UHD/blu of this title, so another 10-14 days is no matter.......
I have a dumb question about the HOLLYWOOD CHINESE bonus disc. The film is from an SD source, interlaced at that. It's not even up rezed. Why is it on a blu ray disc? I am misinterpreting the disc data?
I had these years ago on VHS purchased during a film convention in the early 80s. Those copies were probably from 16mm and were barely watchable. Seeing these in HD was a real treat. They hold up pretty well for films of their age (early talkies). There is some warpage, lots of negative...
Yeah, I've seen these repeatedly for years. The first 3 are the best. WRESTLING WOMEN has it's charms, but it's too lengthy and really not related to the other 3. There is ample stock footage from the first film in #2, so it's kind of like seeing a "digest" version of #1.
Finally got to view the disc over the weekend. Transfer is excellent. Hat's off to the 3-D Film Archive! Generous extras as well. They obviously put a lot of work into those....I've never seen the A&C Meet The Creature From The Black Lagoon look so great!!
